Well let's see. We had Halo in 2001. COD was released in 2003. It wasn't that big a deal. Halo 2 came out. Big deal. COD2 came out. Very successful, but nowhere near Halo in popularity. So very few people played COD.
COD3 came out. Even COD fans will admit that game was just utter failure. Halo 3 came out. Again, dominated with few to no competitors, and no serious ones. It beat Modern Warfare.
Only then, after 8 years of people shunning COD to play Halo, have people switched to COD. It's because they're tired of Halo and want a change. COD has been around for a shorter time, but that isn't why it's "winning." It is "winning" because nobody ever played it up until recently (relatively) while those folks have been playing Halo for a decade. Very few people want the same game (not to imply Halo games haven't had massive changes between them all) for a decade.
So no, I wouldn't say COD is "winning." I would just say that people got tired of Halo because Halo had no real competitors for around 8 years. Maybe after this break Halo will come back. We'll see.Quoted for truth
