Subject: Did Halo start to go downhill after Halo 3?

It started going downhill in pre-patch Halo 2. Once the patch came in, it went back uphill a bit, and while still not on the same level as CE, it was a great game and Halo 2 finished out its lifespan as a great game. Once Halo 3 came in, it got even worse. Bungie stopped supporting the community entirely, and the game surprisingly didn't die out too soon. The only thing keeping this horrible game alive were the ignorant fanboys and a few people who could deal with the -blam!- netcode and random BR spread. The game was a joke. Reach comes in, and it's even worse than Halo 3 at first. Once the MLG playlist was released, it became better than Halo 3, but still not quite good enough. Once the Title Update came in, customs at least became bearable. Reach still suffers from a netcode that, while better than Halo 3, is still an absolute joke by any real standards. Bloom is also still too widely used int he game. It was random and shouldn't have returned again after Shadowrun. It worked for that game, but Bloom is not for Halo. It needs to be removed completely so that we can move on as a community and this game can become even better. 343 should utilize Gold Pro settings for use in both the MLG playlist and all the less competitive playlists out there, possibly with a slightly modified starting weapon (DMR/AR) to cater to the competitive crowd while at the same time not alienating the admittedly much larger casual crowd. Another thing 343 needs to do to at least keep this community alive until Halo 4 is utilize forge. There are plenty of great maps being submitted into Blueprint, being tested by the Community Cartographers, being submitted to MLG, ForgeHub, and XForgery, but 343 hasn't jumped into this huge opportunity to revive Halo: Reach yet. Forge alone can help this game become infinitely playable. CEA is going to be another huge step forward for Halo: Reach. With those maps and the many maps that have yet to be added to MM, this community will almost 100% be revived, or at least give those who are already here an enjoyable time.

How long into someone TL;DR's my post? Not long, I bet.
No, Halo 2 pre-patch recovered while Halo: Reach has not so therefore Halo went downhill during lolReach

Congratulations. You just repeated what I said. lolBnetkids.
haha I compied this to take up space.

The Games are just fine; it's the Community who decides if the Halo fell down.

If you want one perspective, it was the community who fell.
If you would like the other perspective, the halo feeling of Reach was a little discolored.

No, it started going downhill with Halo 3.
Heck, if you're a real purist it started going downhill with Halo 2. Halo 2's only real saving grace was its huge success with XBL.

I remember when people thought Halo went downhill when Bungie signed a contract with Microsoft to develop it as a Xbox exclusive. 2013 people will be talking about how Halo went downhill after it was given to 343 Industries. If we're all still around when that time comes, I'll be here. We can either sit down, have a laugh at them, or you can join them once more for the unending trend of "The newest thing ruins everything whereas everything before it was crafted in God's very ass". Well that or the trend of "The earlier I go in this game's history the cooler I become."

Sometimes, I dream about cheese.

HALO 3 was OK, not as good as 2 or C.E's multiplayer ofcourse. never played wars, ODST was awesome (made up for 3's dissapointing campaign).
reaches campaign was somewhat enjoyable but not good enough that you'd finish again, the multiplayer would have been good if the game had decent maps at the time (reflection and boardwalk are horrible IMO).
at least 343i have started to pick witht ehs eries after BUNGiE started slipping, remaking headlong was an awesome idea. though a remake of hang em high was a waste of a map IMO, they would have been better of remaking infinity, death island, burial mounds, ghost town...
we'll just have to wait and see if HALO 4 will suceed or perhaps bring the HALO series back to the top like it was back in late 2001 - late 2007

Only regret is I didn't play more of it.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

No. It started to go downhill halfway through Halo 3.

Wow, I just realized that I already replied with the same response on the first page.

Hold it right there.

Hello. Name's Brian. Look, if you're looking for a flame war with me, just open up the Flood and write up some not-nice things about religion and I'll bring my nukes to the party.

If you want some other way to contact me, you can forget it.

If you're interested in some of my work, you can check my homepage out.

Indeed. Halo: Reach kind of hanged in there at first, but then it just slipped and broke its neck.

No, Halo began going downhill after Halo 2.

Halo was at it's very best during CE.

  • 11.17.2011 7:41 PM PDT

It seems that you're mad.

Understandable.

I would be mad too if I couldn't understand half of the words the other person was saying.

Halo started to suck after Halo 2.

In my opinion, Reach kicks the -blam!- out of Halo 3 and hasn't gone downhill. It's just changing from Halo 3 which was at the time the most popular in the franchise. Halo 3 just had the most attention and all the noobs and casuals expected it to stay just like that.

Everything after Halo 2 has been a kick in the nuts. I even like 2 better than CE because of Live, maps and movement. I like moving fast naturally and not spend a second complaining anything about any maps.

Yeah, seriously. Halo 3 was terrible. Beatdowns and AR ruled almost anything and equipment was just as bad as armor abilities. It just slowed down the game from Halo 1 and 2. Don't get me wrong, I don't think Reach is THAT much better but it improved Halo 3 greatly.

Halo 3 had the most addicting multiplayer but I still love Reach and think it's great. I wish some the AA's were not there but what can you do, right?

Name's John. I'm a 21-year-old firefighter/EMT from lolhio who doubles as a die-hard Halo fan. I've been enjoying the franchise since 2001. My favorite iteration of Halo would have to be Halo 2 simply because I never got to experience the joy of a full-on Halo: CE LAN.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Oh yeah, and boot Zome.

I despised Halo 3 until Reach and I found ODST to be thoroughly unimpressive. So yes.

Not gonna lie, I raged when the Penny Arcade mouth-breathers said ODST had the best Halo campaign in Bungie's O Brave New World video.

One does not simply trolololol into Mordor.

ODST was pretty awesome, IMO

But I agree with you mostly, still.

This. Halo 3 was really good. It had some setbacks, but it was good. The campaign should have been longer though........

Still better than you.

.....most of you, at least.

You could argue that ODST is actually just H3, but I see your point.

sheithings, lolol
also, fusrodahsucks

It started going downhill from Halo 2, because Halo 3 was the other half to Halo 2's story, but they had to split it because it was going to be too big, so that's why Halo 3 came about after Halo 2's cliffhanger, due to time constraints, and then half way into Halo 3 it should've finished but they had to invent a lot of new crap to make it look not short because Halo 3's part of the campaign really was just a little bit extra if it were latched onto Halo 2.
