Infection in Halo 3 isn't zombie killing; it's ethnic cleansing. Have you ever noticed that these "zombies" are just black Spartans?

Kat's death was great. Not every soldier will be able to make the heroic sacrifice (Jorge and Carter) or go down swinging (Emile and Six), sometimes they just die. Her death reminds us that even SPARTANs are still only human, a point the novels drove home repeatedly but until now wasn't represented by the games.
It is especially fitting that curiosity may have indeed killed the Kat.
About the novels, I know Linda took major plasma damage, but what happened to her after Installation 01?
That's what Halopedia is for.
In short:
> Linda is rescued and placed in cryo by John-117 before the Pillar of Autumn collects the fragment of Cortana from Noble Six and the ship jumps to Installation 04.
> Cryo pods, including the one containing the deceased Linda, are launched into space when the Autumn crash lands on Halo.
> John-117 retrieves Linda's cryo pod whilst aboard the Longsword he escapes Halo in.
> Linda is revived and takes part in Operation: FIRST STRIKE, as depicted in the novel, you guessed it, First Strike.
> Linda arrives safely at Earth and takes part in several operations there, defending it from the Covenant.
> Linda, along with the other remaining Spartan-IIs, is summoned to the planet Onyx by Dr. Halsey.
