So then I said, "Wait a minute! That is my sister!"
I am not trying to expose myself to the flame, but I feel as though the Halo franchise peaked at Halo 2. I might be jaded or just becoming more nostalgic the older I get. But a lot of that made the games good were the simplicity. Sure it has came a long ways in the graphics department. But I still feel like the game itself could be overall more impressive. That and the gameplay mechanics that kept getting mashed in were so over abundant that it made the game seem to suffer in what it really needed.
The ideal of the KISS method applies. Keep it simple stupid. They added dual wielding in Halo 2 and it didn't completely destroy the game as people still favored other weapons and combinations. What I think made the game lose a lot of it's appeal at least for me was when they added equipment. All to much would people be doing well and suddenly lose out to a chance bubble shield or power drain. Changing these to abilities in Reach only furthered my frustrations. What I feel should have happened was an overhaul in the graphics a deeper more driven campaign and only slight tweaks to what was an almost perfect multiplayer experience from Halo 2.
Small things like just tweaking the plasma pistol, giving plasma bolts a little more of a stun like from Halo CE, less auto-aim, and I think keeping bloom or making it more apparent was perfect. But, the game is just stale. I no longer have fun playing it. I quit playing it after the first DLC and have had no desire to play it again. I am not saying I went onto other franchises like COD or BF. Sure I play those games but, that is not what I am getting at. I just feel like either I or Halo itself just has lost it's appeal. And I really do wish I could have fun playing this game again.
