Hey everyone! I have decided to undertake my very first run through Halo 2's Campaign on Legendary.

This is the only Halo I have not yet beaten on Legendary Solo, as I have been saving the hardest for last, so I am not running into this blindly. I do not know how long this will take me to accomplish, since I know that I will probably be discouraged sometimes by the difficulty of the campaign, and, along with that, I am currently in the infamous junior year of high school, so I will have less spare time than I did in the past. Hell, I may never even beat Halo 2 on Legendary, but it's worth a try.

I have heard about the amazing sniping skills of Jackals on Legendary, the ferocity of the Brutes on Legendary, and the tendency of the Drones to be nothing short of goddamn annoying on Legendary. At the moment, the things that I'm looking least forward to are the Jackal Snipers, the boss battle with Regret, and the mission High Charity (thankfully, it is rather short).

Anyways, Cairo Station is up, and Outskirts is on-deck (that is a baseball reference, by the way). Any helpful tips on how to deal with Cairo Station would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Maybe play though each level instead of skipping over roofs and such. Like, you can get up on roofs but you still have to kill all the jackals and stuff. That's the way I like to play CMP anyway.

Yeah, keep us informed. These are cool threads, the Legendary runs are always eventful. You probably already know how to beat Cairo, it just takes more time than heroic. For OS you can out-snipe the snipers if you can stay back far enough.

don't be ashamed of the noob combo. it's the only way to beat elites in halo 2.

and yes, the jackal snipers will be 1-hit killers - but don't get discouraged - halo 2 had the hardest legendary campaign of all. it makes each cut scene all the more rewarding.

I was in 5th grade. I popped in the Halo CE disc into the massive, clunky first generation Microsoft Xbox, and wrapped my small hands around the controller that was almost too big for me. Little did I know what I was getting into.

10+ years later, I still look up to my childhood hero, Master Chief, while everyone talks about He Man and Spongebob haha

Noob combo can be used. But if you don't use it, it'll be more rewarding. :)

Elites can appear somewhat...blind sometimes. On Cairo, I usually half hide behind crates, and they stay still, unaware of me. At this point you can sticky them.

You'll beat it on legendary. Junior year of high school? You have plenty of time, unless you're taking like 6 AP classes...

Okay, thanks for the tips. And yeah, I'm not taking 6 AP classes haha, I'm only taking AP English, so it's not a horrible work load. I still have those days though where I receive copious amounts of homework. I still find time to play most days, though.

Anyways, Cairo Station actually wasn't too bad, so thanks for they advice everyone! I was horrified at first how quickly the shields drain in this game, in comparison to the other Halo games, but I managed to get the hang of it. I would say the only part that I was really discouraged at was where the Drones come swarming in. I died several times, but I finally managed to muster through. It was pretty difficult to find cover. I kept dying in the left hand corner, even though it had a little bit of cover, so I switched to the right hand corner, and I received a lot less fire there, for some reason.

Anyways, onto Outskirts...I'm really not looking forward to any levels with Jackal Snipers, especially Sniper Alley. Anyways, I have a question: do the Jackal Snipers have set locations where they spawn, or are they randomly generated? Also, I'm assuming I should give allies Sniper & Particle Beam Rifles whenever I can, right? Any other helpful tips for this mission? Thanks!

Losing internet 9/7/2012 until i don't know when. See you starside folks.

Fada beo Halo 2!

Check your corners and watch for snipers, you'll do fine with that. Cairo? it's pretty easy with a BR-PP combo, that's the way i do it. Heck, there's a few levels yet that i have to beat!

If you have a hard time with the Drones, have them come to you. After allowing them to spawn, retreat back to the entry way and a Drone might come to the UNSC big shield thing next to the marine. Then shoot at it. When you've killed enough, they will hang back so you can shoot them down with little resistance.

Snipers should have set locations every time. Allies won't be much help but if you have the time, yeah sure, go ahead. And like Grumpy said, go on the roof and fight them from there.

If you're not here to bash Campaign Hero, then your opinion is void.

I love fighting on the roof tops. Especially after scavenging for sniper ammo in the allies.

As far as I'm concerned the Legendary Marines are kick-ass, just don't let them have an RL and they're terrible drivers. Keep them on foot if you can and with beam rifles and snipers they will help a lot.

  • 11.10.2011 9:15 PM PDT

i totally forgot about that! always arm your AI posse with rifles. they'll have unlimited ammo, and they live longer than you think. just pay attention for when they actually do die, you'll have ammo to pick up.

(this includes grunts, btw... hook them up with plasma rifles, cuz otherwise they're worthless with plasma pistols and needlers)

I also remembered an "infinite ammo" tactic I used from Halo 2 all the way to Halo: Reach in campaign. If you empty a clip (and have reserve ammo) and switch your weapon with an ally's weapon, they will reload your weapon and you'll have your clip back.

That's one of the things allies are especially useful for, on any difficulty level of any Halo game (except for CE, you can't switch weapons with them).

Yeah this.

There is an infinite ammo glitch for CE. f you start the reload then immediately swap it for another weapon. In Xbox, I think it would be press X then hold it to swap. Then wait until the reload time has been fulfilled and pick it up. You should have the same amount of ammo you had before.

halo 2 still the best game in the series. long live halo 2.

Dam, I miss the old days playing halo 2 with my old brothers in arms. Thank you my old friends for giving me this account, I shall continue our legacy.

Remember, the plasma pistol is your best friend on Legendary. I would never have been able to beat legendary without it.

Well, I got sniped in the face many times on Outskirts, and it wasn't easy, but I managed to pull through. The only places I had difficulty completing were Sniper Alley and the places where you drive the Warthog around with the Marines. While driving the Warthog, I defeated all of the enemies in the first area with the two Jackal Snipers, but I ran past everything after that, lol. Once I got inside the tunnel, everything was relatively easy.

I don't know if this is a glitch, but both of my Marines got killed in the Warthog before I went into the tunnel. Later, I was in the tunnel in a Ghost, and I stopped for a second because of enemy fire up ahead. Suddenly, I see two Marines in a Warthog drive right past me. I ended up finishing the level with them in the Warthog, but is this supposed to happen?

Anyways, Metropolis is next. I'm not really looking forward to any vehicular combat that isn't in the Scorpion. Especially towards the end of the level, I believe that there are three Wraiths and two Jackal Snipers. Any tips?

That part of Metropolis can be murder, but I found a great spot that keeps you from getting killed and allows you to take out all of the Wraiths.

1-Make sure you have a working Gauss Hog, you will need it
2-Make sure you have a beam rifle or sniper rifle

Once you have defeated the single Wraith and enemies (god I hate that three spawn of twin ghosts) in the "pool area" and the two ghosts past the waterfall structure (is that city art budget money?) take the Gauss Hog up along the right side of the street to the intersection that turns left towards the Wraiths. There are two trees on the right side of the street just shy of the midpoint of the steps and bridge structure that are home to that pair of jackal snipers. Back your hog in under the trees and the branches will stop the incoming Wraith rounds. Dismount and take out the two jackal snipers with the "long arm of the law" that you brought along (beam rifle of sniper rifle) then hop into the Gauss turret and just start blasting away at the Wraiths, closest one first. Eventually you will kill one of the further down ones and get the Phantom that drops off the ghosts. They wont last long against your Gauss either, then you can polish off the other Wraith. Dont worry about their rounds, if you have the hog positioned right, you will have the trees absorb all of the impacts and your sheilds will never even notice it at all.

H2 Legendary is a real challenge, get used to dying, alot, but it is REALLY satisfying to finish. After you have, you will never play it on any other difficulty unless you are tricking like Grumpy does, he ROCKS! Once you get Legendary under your belt a few dozen times (or CS a few dozen times) you can have a blast experimenting with the skulls!

Ha ha, there you are.

To OP, womy is a topnotch Legendary player so what he says is good and he plays the game straight through, no wussy stuff.

@ Womy; I remember you telling me about that spot a long time ago, I think when we first met.

I've tried that strategy before. It works on SLASO. Eventually, the Wraiths will disappear sometime after the Ghosts disappear.

Three levels down, ten to go. A special thanks goes out to womyfts for the advice. Although I couldn't find the Gauss Warthog, I did manage to take out one of the Wraiths with a regular Warthog behind the trees, and that certainly did help. Once the Phantom came, I hid behind the structure from where you first come onto the road. The Phantom was just hovering around, so I stayed back because I didn't want to get killed again. Ultimately, I just decided to drive past the Phantom, and for some reason, the other two Wraiths were gone, so I was easily able to advance. Since I was hiding the whole time, I couldn't see anything going on. Does a Pelican appear at any time? I'm still trying to figure out why the two Wraiths just suddenly disappeared. Maybe it had to do with me staying in the same area for a prolonged amount of time? I honestly have no idea...

Anyways, the most difficult part for me was the area in the tunnel where you get out of the Scorpion and have to advance on foot. I kept getting sniped by those damn Jackals, until I memorized their spawns. Even after that, I had problems, because two invisible Elites kept killing me. It took me a few tries to finally figure out where they were hiding, lol. After that, everything in that area was easier.

The part immediately after the tunnel (in the courtyard) was also very challenging. I swear, I think I sniped at least ten Jackal Snipers in that area alone. If they saw me first, I would be absolutely screwed. Not only that, but then two Ghosts came into the courtyard. Once I sniped the pilots out of the Ghosts, my heart was pounding, because I thought for sure that a Jackal would come out of nowhere and snipe me. Fortunately, there were no enemies left in that area, and getting that checkpoint was one of the greatest things ever, lol.

Anyways, time to play as the Arbiter on The Arbiter. I honestly can't remember which parts are difficult, and right now, the only thing that really comes to mind is the Banshee part towards the end. Are there any snipers in this mission? I can't remember exactly, but I feel like there aren't any Jackals in this mission, but I also feel like there might be some Heretic Elites with Particle Beam Rifles. Can't remember, either way...

2 Pelicans appear, one drops off more Marines and the other has the Scorpion. They come right after the checkpoint you get when the Phantom flies off. The Pelicans lay waste to the Wraiths.

Some checkpoints are golden. The Gauss Hog is driving around in a circle in that round area after the tunnel.

The Arbiter was hard for me until I discovered how devastating double needlers are.

Thanks Grumpy for the hat tip! Much appreciated!

Double needlers ROCK on Arbiter, up to the point that you are playing with Black Eye. Once you activate that sucker I ditch the double needlers, you have to expose too much of yourself to use them as effectively, and with BE going that is just bad news!

RE: the Gauss Hog in the Catch skull area-if you do not start killing covies quick enough, they manage to take it out and you cannot use it, which is a real bummer for my strategy under the trees. The arrival of the second Pelican at the 3 wraith battle does eliminate the other two wraiths, correctomundo! But if you are quick/lucky enough with the tree strategy, you can wipe out one or both before that happens.

OP: For arbiter, MAKE SURE YOU TAKE THE BEAM RIFLE WITH YOU throughout the level, it is much easier to kill the heretic leader and his companions with it than without it. I find that getting to the upper platform on either side gives me the best cover from all of that fire that comes your way from the 2 holo's, the actual heretic leader and any sentinels. Otherwise that battle is just brutally bad for me.

Good Luck!

They only disappear if you don't take out the enemies fast enough. Otherwise the Pelican usually takes them out and then they disappear after the next CP whether alive or dead.

The Arbiter was definitely the easiest mission I have completed so far. I didn't have too many problems, and I would say the only part I had a little difficulty with was the Banshee part at the end of the level (but even that was relatively easy). I found that using the Active Camo proved to be incredibly useful. I was able to consistently assassinate Heretic Elites and Grunts with it, rendering the Energy Sword pretty useless, lol.

I don't think that will be the case with the Oracle, though, since the Energy Sword will probably be one of the best weapons to use when dealing with the Flood. In the opening battle with the Infection Forms, I'll also be sure to chop up the dead bodies with the Energy Sword to prevent them from being revived from the Infection Forms. There is one part of the mission that I am really worried about, and I think that is when waves of Flood come into a small room in which you have to hold your position. It is after the part where you have the spinning elevator with Sentinels and Combat Forms jumping down from above. The only helpful strategies I see will probably be to have the Flood & Heretics duke it out, and to also stay in the corners of the room.

  • 11.12.2011 5:48 PM PDT

Oracle is tough, no doubt about it. I use a sword and either the carbine or Sentinel Beam, whichever is laying around. The Sentinel Beam I only use for Sentinels and there's just enough of the sword to get you to the bottom.

There's a transition room between the area where the Famine skull is and the outside where you see those fat floods that blow up. Stay away from that room and nade the guys who come out of it, then when you go in no other enemy's will come. Is that the place you are talking about?

If you mean the big room with the turrets then I like to stay up on the Famine skull side and use primarily the Sentinel Beam and grab another sword on the lower floor.

If you have a tough time, SlidingGhost has a cool place where he can be safe and still kill what he needs to in order to get the elevator down.
