Founder of The Lost Ones

Hey, I've noticed that many other forums have been using a voting "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" feature with every post.

For example, a post that a person would agree with, would give them a thumbs up and therefore display a single thumbs up for that particular post.

Just wondering if Bungie ever thought of implementing this feature into the forums in the future.

It's not required, but at times it's pretty useful.

Meh. I don't think of that as even useful, and could sometimes be really annoying. Thumbs up if you agree!

It would be miss used by the 12 year olds that inhabit these forums. Say if Hylebos made the Spiker Thread 2.0 i'd be sure that his million page long OP would be voted down by kids looking for a cheap laugh.

I don't really like how rating systems usually turns out.

No one knows what Bungie is thinking; not even Bungie.

How is it useful?

Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.

If I agree or disagree with a post (sufficiently) I take the time to reply. That's the point of a discussion.

If I don't care, I don't reply.

If I don't like it, I don't reply either.

I hope not.

A system like that would detract from the general discussion of the forum. Users would just vote up/vote down a post, rather than actually posting and adding their points of view.

Also various users would troll the system by voting troll posts up, and good posts down.

It would be a joke like xbox's rep system.

I work for the Department of Defense.

I've always wanted a system where you could up/down vote individual posts, not threads. That also would not move the post's "position". It's mostly like the report button, get enough downs and it hides it.

The main difference would be a "up" vote option, which would (theoretically) promote people to think before they post. Yeah, not perfect, there is no perfect method.

You imply a level of control over Halo: Reach matchmaking that we no longer have. Or, in your vernacular, it isn't our shiznit anymore.

+1

This sums up my opinions. Also the report feature serves its purpose to hide unwanted posts, and if you agree with the poster you can comment and support him/her.

With my experience with Youtube and other things... It's safe to say that such a thing is not needed and makes it for an annoyance at times. Do you really want to see a +21 on a post that says "Cool story bro"?

No, and I don't see why people get this so wrong.

- You would like a post if you agreed with it or found it interesting.
- You would dislike a post if you didn't agree with it or didn't find it interesting.
- You would report a post if it violated the rules.

The report button is not there for posts you don't "agree with" or don't want to see. It's there for reporting violations of the forum rules. Nothing else.

Tell me which is more annoying (as you put it): a little counter beside a post showing that 21 people found it interesting, or 21 people posting the same thing? Which is more spammy? Which is more distracting?

Oh, and the interesting thing about YouTube and their rating system is that you don't often see comment duplication, which allows for fresh, new content to be posted and have a certain degree of discoverability about it.

No. It would turn into a worse version of Facebook/Youtube.

"Hurr durr thumbs up if you think OP is a -blam!- lolol hurrfff durrfff"

Everything would turn into a piss-poor attempt at getting a thumbs up.

Just like Facebook
Just like Youtube
Just like Reddit

Also, people would just thumbs up people they like since most people know each other here.
