Seriously. I know that the covenant was wrong, but there is something called the great journey and I think that master chief is about to go right on it.

I have been re-playing halo 3, and there is alot of stuff I notice now that I did not notice back when I was in sixth grade.

On the cortana level, cortana sais that she talked about how she could see chief's future,

"I have walked the edge of the abyss. I have seen your future. And I have learned!" - Cortana Moment in the level Cortana. this is evidence that chief has a large destiny. Maybe "the abyss" is another word for the mantle?

"There will be no more sadness, no more anger, no more envy!" - Cortana Moment in the level Cortana. Seriously what is she talking about here? perhaps this is what will happen after chief completes his journey that cortana can see through the abyss.

Now in terminal eight (non-legendary) someone who I think is bornsteller/didact2 says"
D: Mendicant Bias is trying to
prevent us from firing the Array.
He speeds back to the Ark, but he
won't succeed. Offensive Bias will
stop him, and I will burn this
stinking menace in your name.

And then?

I will begin our Great Journey
without you, carrying this bitter
record. Those who came after will
know what we bought with this [false
transcendence] - what you bought,
and the price you paid.
So the covies are right, the forerunners did go on a great journey of some sort after activating the halo ring. He also has said that they will live In the future whatever that means.

Also, you get a message from mr. bias on legendary. Here is the one from skull 7.

You don't know the contortions I had
to go through to follow you here,
Reclaimer. I know what you're here
for. What position do I take? Will I
follow one betrayal with another?

You're going to say I'm making a
habit of turning on my masters.

But the one that destroyed me long
ago, in the upper atmosphere of a
world far distant from here, was an
implement far cruder than I.
My weakness was capacity -
unintentional though it was! -
to choose the Flood. A mistake my
makers would not soon forgive.

But I want something far different
from you, Reclaimer.

Atonement.

And so here at the end of my life,
I do once again betray a former
master. The path ahead is fraught
with peril. But I will do all I can
to keep it stable - keep you safe.
I'm not so foolish to think this
will absolve me of my sins. One life
hardly balances billions.

But I would have my masters know
that I have changed.

And you shall be my example.

So medicat bias clearly wants master chief to help him find with attonement, and plans to help chief. So he will probably be seen in halo 4.

I always thought that the Cortana moments in Halo 3 were actually Gravemind speaking through her. Like in the level 'The Storm' she says 'I have defied Gods and Demons' it seems to be Gravemind refering to what he did to the Forerunners.

The Gravemind was showing Cortana the fates of people being taken by the flood. It was in evolutions.

I always thought it was Medicant Bias using Cortana as a messenger. Maybe some of her "Moments" were really her, but not all of them.

Why are you here?

"There will be no more sadness, no more anger, no more envy!" - Cortana Moment in the level Cortana.

She's talking about what it would be like (according to Gravemind) if everything was assimilated into the Flood.

That was my opinion, not an actual fact.

The Great Journey being the Forerunner's galactic exile?

:)

The 'great journey' is simply the Didact's passage after activating the rings. In the Halo 3 terminals, he tells the Librarian that he will go on a great journey and keep a record of what happened during the Flood-Forerunner war and the sacrifices the Forerunner had to make to save the galaxy, in the hope it would never happen again.

Or something like that. Obviously the Covenant misinterpreted what he meant by 'Great Journey'.

The Didact's final transmission:

"Mendicant Bias is trying to prevent us from firing the Array. He speeds back to the Ark, but he won't succeed. Offensive Bias will stop him, and I will burn this stinking menace in your name. And then? I will begin our Great Journey without you, carrying this bitter record.
