The average spartan vs the average elite? The best spartan vs the best elite?

Average Elite against an average Spartan? I'd go with the Spartan. But if it's with energy swords, the Elite.

The best Spartan vs the best Elite? Who would you classify those as?

I suppose that would have to be John, so if we're talking hand-to-hand, then I say he wins. But with energy swords? He's done for.

depends spartans do know and must have tactical training against enemies with energy swords.

Really effective hand to hand combat. So they must be able to fight hand to hand with an enemy with an energy sword and find a way to win.

"violent video games make me murder innocent people the way Monopoly makes me rich"

I'd say Elites are better warriors. They're like samurai, and have a certain honor to their work that Spartans can't. But if you mean who is better at killing things, then the Spartans are better by far. One Spartan can fight off a horde of Elites.

Elites glass planets, killing innocent civilians and they kill them on the ground too. Elites also love active camo which is a sissy move. I dont see any honor in that

In memory of those fallen in the defense of Earth and her colonies.

Yes.

There must have been at least millions of elites. If they were as all good as the average Spartan, the UNSC would have had no chance of winning.

Just to let you guys know in the BOOK (dont remember which one, just remember it was either fall of reach or first strike) it has a scene where Master Chief runs out of Assualt Rifle ammo and starts to fight (wrestle) an Elite. Master Chief BARELY manages to win. and yes Spartan 117 had to take a minute to catch his breath from the fight with the sangheili

  • 11.11.2011 5:44 PM PDT

well to answer the question i believe spartans are better fighters but you cant underestimate the power of the Sangheili

Sigh, Elite honor doesn't mean it's the same as your honor.

And, I've never heard of them killing a civilian themselves (such as, they are on the ground and personally kill the farmer).

Personally, if we went hand to hand combat between John, and a Zealot or equally impressive rank, I'd say John loses simply because he does not have a good hand to hand track record.

Really? Playing that card? So I'm guessing your examples are as follows:
1)The zero-gee incident
2)The Brute
3)Halo Legends

1) It was a zero-gee environment, and according to the book, that was the FIRST TIME he had encountered an elite, also in that book, the Elite was significantly taller.

2) Took him by surprise, and again, was an enemy he had never encountered beforehand. Plus it got him in a grapple, which is something that is very bad if the enemy is much stronger. And in that part of the book, it tells you that his superior H2H/Martial Arts skills managed to get him out of that. something like "Countless hours on the mats with martial arts specialists." So yes, he is very well adept at H2H combat.

3)Fighting an experienced Elite on it own game(Energy sword). I'm guessing he would've done A LOT better if he had a combat knife, similar to how Fred did.

ALL S-IIs have significant H2H training, some that even specialize in it. And to address the OP, how many Elite kills does one SPARTAN have? Now how many SPARTAN kills does 1 Elite have? That should answer your question.

Elites are stronger, have better tech including armor and weapons, and are equally trained in tactics and fighting as the Spartans.

Elites win, in most cases. John is an exception, there's a reason he is one of the few able to survive. And even then, in a 1v1 with the best elite, he would probably lose. I mean, unless of course he got lucky :3

Depends heavily on training.

Spartan-IIIs can sidestep energy swords and use them against Elites effectively. In the same context, a Spartan-II have have a 1 on 1 duel to the death against an Elite and still lose.

They come now... and they take us... the tide rises.

This two warriors are two things different.

Sangheili are warriors, they combat for honor and glory of their name.

Spartans are super-soldiers, they combat in an army with other soldiers for save lifes and destroy the enemy. They have responsabilities and orders and they can't combat for the pleasure of the fight.

  • 11.12.2011 5:41 AM PDT

I think the main differences between "warrior" and "soldier" are the motivation and the way in which they fight. Sangheili fight for honour and their majestic armour and weapons reflect the style which distinguishes them as greater "warriors", whereas Spartans equipment is more simple and functional, leaning them further towards "soldier". This is then of course in their definition of "super-soldier" as well...

  • 11.12.2011 12:25 PM PDT

What's this big deal about "Oh, warrior is different then soldier."?

  • 11.12.2011 12:28 PM PDT

A soldier is responsable of the defence and safety of civilians.
A warrior is unresponsable.

and where the heck does this come from?

In many societies in which a specialized warrior class exists, specific codes of conduct (ethical codes) are established to ensure that the warrior class is not corrupted or otherwise dangerous to the rest of society. Common features include valuing honour in the forms of faith, loyalty and courage.

That's what wikipedia says about warriors. I find that conflicts with your "irresponsible" statement.
