I'm actually aghast at how linear-minded some on this forum think. Use a bit of imagination and stop restraining your minds with these artificial boxes you place around yourself as you think you know how an alien collective would think over five-hundred years in the future, and apply basic, theoretical logic to a complicated situation.

That would be all fine and dandy had we gotten some more varied viewpoints from the characters. But nope. With the Elite characters, we see mostly anti-human sentiment.

You can make as many excuses about how they wouldn't just drop their feud instantly or they wouldn't just say sorry. I don't expect them too. But they are basing their hatred based on a lie from the Prophets, the same race that betrayed them and had the Elites exterminated on High Charity, Delta Halo, Earth and across the fleets. I don't expect repentance so soon, but I also don't expect the Elites to simply finish what the Prophets started.

You're right, they're not going to just put aside their deep-rooted hatred of humanity in an instant. Just look at the Middle East or the north-south divide in Cyprus. These things don't happen overnight.

But I do presume that there are some factions, other than Thel and R'Tas that are pro-human. Maybe we just don't get to see much of it in Glasslands. And if we don't get to see it and we instead see a lot of resentment for humanity it's for a reason. Karen doesn't just stick anything in her novels. Everything has a purpose, whether it's for the characters themselves or for the plot as a whole.

I think most of us would like to see the Elites and humanity put aside their differences and continue what they started as allies, myself included. But look at the US and Russia. Previous allies, then bitter, paranoid enemies. Sounds oddly familiar to me.

If there are, we don't see them. It is simply inexcusable to think they couldn't be important to the story, which is honestly disappointing since I liked her as an author.

i fear it may take another war, and if humanity found another space faring nation, and they made peace, man would the elites miss out on one good opportunity

Maybe their role or appearance simply isn't required in the first novel. After all, there are two more to come.

Reading through Coalitions End you find lot's of subtle hints at future developments. But none of that is obvious until you've played GOW2. I predict things will become clearer in time.

And to those bashing Traviss simply because she's not Nylund, you're welcome to do better yourself.

Even if there is no need for them story-wise, would it be so hard to add in one line that said that there were significant amounts of people on both sides of the debate? Even just a small throw-away line?

Never read Coalition's End.

There might be hints, but you won't know that until it comes some sort of conclusion.

Oh, and I meant GOW3 not GOW2.

I'm not talking about hints. Even a quick line from Raia to Jul telling him that the Arbiter has a lot of followers and he has to be absolutely sure that he can consolidate into a good position of power.

US and Russia were never allies. They were ideological enemies before the war and the fall of Nazism solved nothing of that dispute.

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

She needs more experience with Halo if they want to give her another chance.

You're missing the point entirely. "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."

And how does that necessitate that they go back to war with each other after their common foe is defeated?

It just doesn't make any sense that a battered and beaten humanity would attack a powerful entity unprovoked after thirty years of brutal war.

In all honesty, i want nylund back! I also didnt have problems with onis actions, other then they were just boring. I just cant het past how she butchered Halsey and Mendez, ignored the spartan 2's, and most of the spartan 3's. Halsey is one of my favorate characters, and i was insulted to see that she was sunddenly a an emotional wreck all because Mendez did;nt consult her... Please.... that was so lame

Nor does it make sense that so many Elites want to attack humanity because they still carry hatred towards them that was based on a lie by the Prophets who ended up betraying them.

Yeah, I mean, ONI (as I can tell) outright hints or states that the 'pro-human' group is small, or unlikely to win if push came to shove.

Where instead they could have gone "We are giving these rebels some weapons, so that they attack and the Arbiter takes them down and proves his worth as a leader, bringing more to the pro-human group."

Not having read Glasslands I can't really comment. So I presume they launch an attack then?
