Halo 2 Vista is consider to be okay by some and terrible by others. It usually has around 50 people playing it at any given time. You'll normally find Sniper matches on Lockout or multi-team Sniper matches on Foundation.

Halo Custom Edition is definitely still worth getting if you don't mind leading your targets so far that it sometimes feels like you're shooting people with a Spinfusor (Tribes) with no explosion using a sniper rifle. If you use version changer to switch over to 1.00ce it'll have a ~1,500 player population. (That's a decent enough population to always find a good match in PC gaming)

I like the PC version of Halo: Combat Evolved much more than I do the Xbox version. When it comes to Halo 2 Vista I still like it more, but not as much of an improvement.

Halo: Custom Edition was one of the best experiences of Halo ... ever.

50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

Halo 1: Hell Yes!

2: SKIP!

That is very true. You could get the trial for the game to see if you like it. I don't know how well the population is doing, though.

Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

If you have never played the Halo 2 campaign, I would get Halo 2 Vista for that alone. It's well worth $20 IMO.

As to the multiplayer of H2V, you can easily buy an old Xbox 1 and Halo 2 + Multiplayer Map Pack disc for cheap and play over Xbox Connect or Xlink. I did that a could months ago with my 360 and Halo 2, and it worked quite well and there were a good number of rooms open.

As to Halo Combat Evolved I highly advise buying it. It's also $10-20 now, and the FREE Custom Edition addon is great!

Why are you reading this go play your xbox 360!!

While I do like Halo 2 Vista, I just feel it's a -blam!- port and not exactly worth $20.

This probably wouldn't work very well. The Halo 2 Map Pack was definitely excellent, but Halo 2 on the Xbox had about 2 updates since that map pack and some are playing with those updates. It is unlikely that you will find compatible games.

Actually that's not true. You can connect to players who have older/newer updates through system link. I know this due to a LAN party I went to about a half a year ago. I had the map packs and the other two guys had vanilla Halo 2 (Never touched the map packs or Xbox Live). Worked like a charm. In fact they could do the Rocket/Sword Lunge while mine couldn't :P
