I never said i was impressed lol... All's that i see is a slight improvement on the bump mapping and specular level..

And I never said that you said that. ;-)

However, there were quite a few initial.... (Okay, I have to admit, I was about to do some of me15ter's leet for fun, but decided against it. Let's try again.) ... "Wow, that's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my short 12 years on this planet!" comments.

Well i'm 22 and i have seen graphics a lot better!

The thing that i find most annoying.. Well really annoying about Halo is.. I make maps from scratch, textures, everything.. Halo is THE most fussiest game i have come across in regards to making custom things for it... I've made maps and things for games that are superior and they are no where near as fussy as Halo.. Such a large amount of fuss over a game that is kinda old (but still great)

LOL. Dude, I've seen way more better stuff than this picture. Like DOOM 3, Homeworld 2, F.E.A.R., Act of War: Direct Action, Ages of Empires III, and of course, Halo 2, the list of much more better looking games goes on. I'm just saying that it still looks great. I don't care how old Halo Combat Evolved is right now, it is still a visually attractive game. So don't get me wrong, I think that this picture is beautiful but this snapshot is merely an amateur's drawing compared to some of the real visual works of art out there.

But look at that resolution! That's got to be a higher resolution than what the Xbox plays on.

It doesn't really matter; it's not that 'FREAKIN' AMAZING' of a picture. We've all seen better.

Yes, we all have seen prettier things.

Now we can look forward to a thread exactly like this, but instead of marvelling at a picture of Halo PC, we can marvel at a picture of H2PC!

So this thread will actually have a meaning, because if it isn't a Halo PC picture, this thread is pointless.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. It's not that insane.

People have been playing Halo like that since it came out. It was just a matter of the right hardware. Back in the day, a 9800 Pro was sufficient to do that. The XBox is five years old, and in comparison to a modern pc, even a cheap one, it's a dinosaur.

I run Halo close to 100fps at my maximum resolution, maximum settings. Halo is no longer a current game, in fact it's pretty old itself. It looks fugly. Look at a game like FEAR or Oblivion and you'll see some truly beautiful graphics.

In response to the OP's question - a 6600GT. They go for less than $90 nowadays.

If you want to play current and up-coming games, though, you'll need something much better.

I do believe I have seen prettier graphics, such has Homeworld 2, or Act of War: Direct Action, or Call of Duty 2. Doom 3, or F.E.A.R. too. There are tons of great titles that look better.

Gearbox screwed up the port so it was harder to get higher resolutions on even the beefiest of rigs.

Not so anymore, because with today's midrange card you can get a great experience now. It just goes to show you how fast computer technology grows.

Yeh it does get kinda annoying when you go out and buy some nice hardware and a month later something a lot better gets released.

That screenie was taken from the Xbox version as a promo for the original version! My you guys get racked up so easily. Actually, it could also be from a Mac, but I doubt it. Take a look at the Health Bars, don't see squares, you see rounded squares. XBOX or MAC. Xbox more likely because MAC sucks lol.

Yeah, my Mac sucks like this:

I'm skeptical as to whether they made Halo even have graphics like that. I don't think there is any graphics card you can use to have gameplay look like that.

that's a pre-release image. the game CAN'T look like that. like chewy said, they removed that part of the AR's texture and shading. so the only way to get it back is a mod. and i don't think there is one.

as for the grass, and a few other things, just pump up the anisotropic filtering.

and btw, png is a lossless format. use it when you can. looks just as good as bmp but way smaller.

"application managed" anisotropic filtering
16x anisotropic filtering

had to save as a max quality jpeg for the second one... png was just 50 kb too big to host on imageshack :(

does anistropic filtering make the textures of games clearer?

Yea I mean Halo looked good back in the day but just plain can't compare nowdays. Just check out this shot I took of Elderscrolls: Oblivion.

Also dont forget that this is a JPEG still-shot. It looks even better than this ingame in realtime.

anisotropic filtering makes the transition from close textures (hi res) to far textures (low res) smoother and makes them clearer.

it also seems to make textures on faces that are at obtuse viewing angles clearer.

basically it makes textures clearer farther away from the camera.
