As you can see in the first cutscene. The armor was heavily damaged, and obsolete. Even if his armor wasn't so beat up, an upgrade was available

halo 2 still the best game in the series. long live halo 2.

Dam, I miss the old days playing halo 2 with my old brothers in arms. Thank you my old friends for giving me this account, I shall continue our legacy.

His old armor took quite a beating in fighting the covies, flood, sentinels, and in the journey home. War is hell, especially to tech and armor. Rather then fix it, they gave him a brand new improved armor hoping that he doesn't destroy another expensive piece of tech again.

Ha ha, plus they needed him to go underwater and into space more so yeah, an upgrade was in order to do both.

For Carnage, Apply Within.

I have returned from the Untamed Lands. MOAP is dead.

And let's not forget his armor was probably stinky and damp because there were no toilets on Halo 04.

With as much flipping that warthog in CE does, I'm betting that there is a little vomit in that helmet too.

Well in that case Bungie probably decided that the new design looked cooler than the old Mk. V armor.

I wonder, how did he manage to take care of business when hes always in his suit all the time. I doubt he held it in during the entire conflict, or that the armors toilet systems kept on functioning with all the damage he got.

Wait, he had a switch on his hip when he wanted to flush, then he would shake his leg.

Or...just what was Cortana doing inside that suite? Hmmm

I'm pretty sure it was just plain outdated, and as for Bungie's reason...i'm not quite sure, they thought it just could be better i guess. @ Grumpy, lol.

This is a Reach account that I created the day they announced his name in a bnet weekly update. Any stats regarding ODST or Halo 3 are irrelevant. Also, Halo CE master race. Halo 1 > other halo games > other games.

Account Status: Silver :(

Thinking with Portals since '07

Battlefield 3 sucks.

I like Mark V better to be honest.

Because they wanted to remake the Chief's look slightly and they got an excuse in canon to do it.

Chief finishes putting on his armor at the end of the first cutscene in Halo 2. He is being briefed by a marine leader about how badly damaged his old gear is and asks the Chief about his new suit "You know how expensive this gear is, son?"- to the Chief's reply "Tell that to the Covenant."
