Why does everyone think that? Spawn-killing is a legit tactic but everyone seems to disagree.
I almost never get spawn killed, and that is because I do not allow it. It seems to me that the players who think that spawn-killing is unfair, come from the players who are not so good.
Everyone disagrees because spawn-killing is NOT a legit tactic. Say what you will about a player or team being bad, that is not an excuse to be a bad sport yourself. This is a game; it's meant to be fun. If your idea of fun is to ruin the experience for everyone else, then you need to reevaluate your sense of self-worth and dignity, because it is fair to suspect that you are lacking in both. If, over the course of the match, your team gains an extreme tactical advantage, then at least afford your opponents an opportunity to fight back and save face.
I have been on both sides of the equation, and I don't like either one of them. I don't enjoy being killed where I stand before I can even register where I am in the map, and I think it's in poor taste to do that to other players. You stand to gain nothing by trapping the other team into non-playability except to collectively create a more hostile gaming community, alienating and dejecting the kinds of people that help make these games so enjoyable.
By playing like an insufferable d-bag, you are shooting yourself in the foot by creating a veritable quagmire of gamers who hate each other, and by extension, the game. Congratulations.
Then next time I won't kill them, because it would make them hate me. Also, I won't pick up power weapons, because it would be unsporting to use weapons the enemy doesn't have!
Don't you realize how dumb your argument is?
I am not talking about ordinary gameplay circumstances or one team winning over another by a wide margin, or power weapons being used, or anything along those lines. I was very specific about one type of behavior which I characterized as being unsportsman-like. Games will be won by ridiculous margins; that happens. But it is one thing to win a BTB game 100-15 with teamwork, cooperation and skill against a team of randoms who can't organize, communicate or play well, and another thing entirely to actively make it as challenging as possible to play the game in the first place.
As a gamer, I choose to play with honor and dignity in both loss and victory. If my team is winning by a 70 point margin, I do NOT make every attempt to kill my opponents before they can even move three feet from where they spawn. They should be allowed to pull themselves together and have a fighting chance. The game should not be functionally over until it officially ends because one team thinks it's funny to be a jerk.
This is a game, people. It's meant to be fun. When it's not fun, it's not worth doing. Reach's population is not declining because of the game itself, but because of irresponsible players who make the game miserable for others.
