This is a long read, I'm warning you now, so I don't want to see a thread full of TLDR's.

Why Do We Love Halo?

Despite being asked this question numerous times, I've never actually sat down and thought about it. Most replies were hastily made and akin to something like "It's just a great game."

I've always loved science fiction. Apart from that, I've always loved science. I often times set my Stumbleupon to Science and stumbled for hours. It was in this that I found my answer.

We live in a time that is plagued with social and political imbalance. Every direction we turn our heads, we see violence and turmoil. Every direction... but up. When we turn our heads to the stars, we see an escape.

As man, we have a tendency to reach for things beyond our grasp. In 1969, we reached farther than we ever thought possible. We reached the Moon. Even planet-side, things were different. People would buzz about our accomplishment as a species. And even though there were still wars being fought, we, the human race were united. United by a dream.

But we've stopped dreaming. World governments can't see past a quarterly statement. The US's most recent Bank Bail-out cost more than NASA's net budget TO DATE!

Halo would seem to be just another science-fiction story, but it has something that most others don't. Can you guess?

Halo gave us that dream back. I know many of you are thinking: But Halo is about war. This is true, but more than that, it is about the unification of our race to protect our home. In Halo, humans are faced with extinction from an amalgam of alien species. But despite our inferior technology and numbers, we win. We win with our spirit. We put aside our differences and surge back against our foe with staggering courage.

The overwhelming feeling of pride I get when playing or reading through the Halo Universe is what I love most about Halo. The story makes me feel like as a human being, I... we can accomplish anything. Obstacles aside, we need to start dreaming again. We need to start reaching again.

Thank you Bungie for giving us this new outlook. We're all waiting with wide-eyed anticipation for your new universe.

See you all Starside.

Please: what do you love most about Halo?

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

Very interesting view. One thing about Halo lore that I always enjoyed was the idea that humans aren't just sitting around when the Covenant show up and attack like most alien movies. We were expanding, exploring. Our world was getting bigger. I liked the idea of where humanity could go, what we had the potential to do. They very idea of humans living on other worlds to me is still far fetched, but Halo had a talent for making it very grounded so to speak. Even though you knew you were involved in a high-tech futuristic epic, it still felt at home. The cars still had wheels and the guns still shot bullets, it made it feel like we were still human but at the same time we had changed.

well said, man. Yeah most "First Contact" scenario movies and stories take place in the not-too-distant future. I like how Halo did it.

In high definition baby!

I would buy a game if it had superior story, even its gameplay was garbage.

Halo has both: supeior story and gameplay.

I love halo for its deepness...the story of the forerunners was so deep it entered my heart.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

The story.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

I find it fairly hubristic to use "we," as if this applied to everyone or even a significant number of Haloers.

What I love most about Halo is the Warthog.

I love it because of the music. Halo has one of the best soundtracks in gaming history (in my opinion). Honestly, I reckon that the music contributes a huge amount to my enjoyment of the game, more so than graphics or story. It just makes everything seem so much more.....epic. Without the music, the campaign wouldn't have that breathtaking feel to it, it would be kind of empty and boring. But hey, I love everything about the game to be honest :)

That's one of the places I think the new trilogy will fall short. Halo isn't Halo without Marty. Another reason I can't wait for Destiny.

Group is Soldiers of War, ask for invite if you're interested

We love Halo because it is a gaming experience unlike all the others that exist.

Yes the Call of Duty franchise is impressive, Medal of Honor is timeless, Gears of War is incredible to say the very least.
But ever since Halo CE came out all of those years ago, we knew when we started playing that this was something unique. The story was fascinating, the weapons and enemies interesting, multiplayer, although just starting out, was engaging and as the sequels came it really became something extraordinary.

I feel like we all like the game, true, but what we really grow close to is the feeling and memories that are truly special to the franchise.

"Halo, it's divine wind will rush through the stars, propelling all who are worthy along the path of salvation!"

I love everything.
The story more-so, though. It just touches my heart, the forerunners, elites, spartans etc. When I take a fresh cold breath of air at night, it makes me feel as if I were actually on a Halo. I loved it since it came out. It is quite a nostalgic experience for me.

TLDR; It's awesome.

Love Halo, looking foreword to Halo 4, sorry but reach was a step back for the halo franchise

If it doesn't have a warning label, it's not worth buying

Why do I like Halo?

1. Gameplay:
Halo has always had great gameplay and controls going all the way back to CE. The weapon balance in every game was outstanding, The AI was quite intelligent, and vehicles were fun and easy to drive.

2. Story:
While not every halo game had the best story, they were far from the worst. The characters for the most part were solid, and there were quite a handful of epic moments.

3. Graphics:
Most (if not all) halo games were in the "Top 5 best looking games" in the year that they were released. They all had big enviroments, plenty of detail, and excellent character modeling.

In summary every halo game(including Halo: Wars) had some redeeming quality, and will be my favorite franchise for a very long time.
