I'm so confused about this whole Didact business...
On one hand, there's no definitive evidence confirming that he died, in fact he implies in Halo 3's Terminals that he will survive the firing of the array. If he was indeed at the Ark, then he certainly would have.
On the other, I'm seeing a load of arguments now saying he's dead.
:S
I personally thought he was still alive...I mean, the beginning of Cryptum makes it seem as if Bornsteller is recounting everything we're reading. Like, he's still alive and just remembering everything we read in the novel.
That's exactly what I thought. It sounds as if he's recounting the history of the Forerunners to someone, similarly Primordium does this too with Chakas.
However, it may be that the Didact is recounting this whilst he's on the Ark/Installation 04 and the final book will return to the point where he activates the Rings.
Suddenly, the argument has changed following the Terminals in CEA? I think it'd be a bit silly from a narrative point of view for Spark to be speaking hypothetically about the Didact and Prometheans when the final Terminal ends pretty ominously with the Autumn exploding, stars going out and the Didact's emblem appearing.
