Subject: Can Halo be saved?

I know there is a TU coming but is it too late? Will the veteran players come back with these new settings?

I think as a start 343 should've made all the DLC maps free with Anniversary.

What are your thoughts?

Life is a journey, if you spend all of it with your nose in your map, you may miss some of the best parts.

Maybe.

Reach can't be saved.

Hey, uh, if you like vs threads, then check out this little group right here, if you have the time. It's pretty fun, just hop right in.

Of course not - it blew up twice, remember?

Forget it man, and get with the countdown. Shake this square world and blast off for Kicksville.

Reach host ranking algorithm: (a*quit_percentage + b*isMexican + c*(1/KDR) + d*hasGuest) * 100
where a > b = d > c

Anniversary will improve things a little, and Reach will keep limping along. That's about it.

Whether Halo 4 restores Halo to its former glory has more to do with whether or not people have lost their taste for grey-brown military shooters by then.

MY heart belongs to Halo. It will probably be the last game I ever play

  • 11.13.2011 5:01 PM PDT

I haven't played in months and I jumped on the other night and was shocked by how low the population was? Jumped on Halo 3 and Social Slayer almost had the same population as Reach team slayer.

I think the problem was that Bungie let their ego get in the way and could've made significant changes months ago when people were still interested.

I might go back for some Custom Fire Fight matches but that's about it.

Everybody wants some.

Reach has alienated too many people (fans and non-fans alike) to redeem itself. H4 HAS to be a good game or this series is done for. There's no way anyone wants to play a gimmicky, watered down version of Halo like Reach again, I can assure you of that.

  • 11.13.2011 5:03 PM PDT

When did you come back? I haven't logged on in forever because I thought you were gone.

I think the problem is the fact that Reach was far to easy for bad players to be as good as the players who would normally beat them. For one, bloom was a nice idea, but it's infuriating to be in a DMR battle only to be beat by the guy with worse aim because one bullet decided to be the magic one.

For another thing, armor abilities. I don't think I need to explain how AL provided a haven for dead men to live, or how camo brought about increased camping.

Basically the game was made to make as equal of a playing field as possible, squashing any incentive to get better at the game and providing less skilled players with the resources to be as good as better players. I can guarantee with absolute certainty that if I was thrown into a Halo 3 lone wolves game right now that I wouldn't do half as well there as I would on Reach. That is a problem.

What 343 needs to do is stop making this game so easy. Take away the variables that make it so effortless. Even if I'm considered bad in Halo 3 and good in Reach, I'd rather have an accurate, brutal truth estimate based on my skill than the false ego-boosting one Reach has.

Bungie cant change it. 343 is in control. Where have you been? Hiding under a rock or something?

The power of my bass is matched only by the heft of my warhammer and the girth of my beer mug!

After a recent watching of the entirety of Red vs. Blue, I've gotten back into playing Reach with my wife. I accepted the game for what it was and I'll thoroughly enjoy it for a long time. Everyone else may lose interest in it, but I'll keep coming back.

I totally agree with everything you said. I found myself getting frustrated with all the little gimmicks Bungie added. I see what they were trying to do but it was quite obvious they weren't working and Bungie did nothing to rectify their mistakes. If anything, they just wipped their hands of this game and moved on.

I was referring to when Bungie were still working on the game.

lets not sound like an Elitist now and having everyone play with just brutally high expectations or die.

Please don't hype for games...
They'll just fall short of your expectations and you'll complain for months.

The way I see bungie's thought process if they intended to make reach was this:

"Look, CoD is completely destroying halo 3!"

"Well, what do they have that increases appeal?"

"Gimmicks, crutches, and easy gameplay."

"Great, so let's do the exact same thing in halo!"

OT: I really don't hate on reach that much. Maybe because I don't blow nuisances out of proportion, or maybe because I usually forge or do customs. If it was broken, then halo cannot be saved. Why? Because, personally, 343i hasn't gained my trust yet.
