I think the problem is the fact that Reach was far to easy for bad players to be as good as the players who would normally beat them. For one, bloom was a nice idea, but it's infuriating to be in a DMR battle only to be beat by the guy with worse aim because one bullet decided to be the magic one.

For another thing, armor abilities. I don't think I need to explain how AL provided a haven for dead men to live, or how camo brought about increased camping.

Basically the game was made to make as equal of a playing field as possible, squashing any incentive to get better at the game and providing less skilled players with the resources to be as good as better players. I can guarantee with absolute certainty that if I was thrown into a Halo 3 lone wolves game right now that I wouldn't do half as well there as I would on Reach. That is a problem.

What 343 needs to do is stop making this game so easy. Take away the variables that make it so effortless. Even if I'm considered bad in Halo 3 and good in Reach, I'd rather have an accurate, brutal truth estimate based on my skill than the false ego-boosting one Reach has.

lets not sound like an Elitist now and having everyone play with just brutally high expectations or die.

Not trying to sound that way, but to be brutally honest I sucked at Halo 3 by any standards. In Reach I am actually quite decent. Playing ZB really made me see how my aim needed to be steadier, which drove me to see just how lucky some of my kills may have been in the past because of bloom.

Reach is far too easy for players less skilled to be on an equal playing field; I feel there shouldn't be comforting illusions regarding the ability to play the game.

R.I.P. Halo 2 <33333333
Do not play halo much anymore. Barely ever come on here.

Idk, with no bloom it is a little more bearable to play.

The TU playlist made me think there was still a little hope and hopefully these Halo CE remakes play ok on the Reach engine. I used to love Halo but now I find I need to force myself to play it, which shouldn't be the case.

Have fun being crestfallen when the game fails.

Why is hypocrite spelled with an E at the end?
The I in crite is not pronounce as eye.

So, on the one hand I spell it out exactly as it should be.
You follow the standard set before you by fools who can't even get a handle on the rules of their own language.

I think the problem was that Bungie let their ego get in the way and could've made significant changes months ago when people were still interested.

I think the problem is that you are ignorant to the possibility that Bungie was contractually not allowed to touch Reach's hard code (i.e. a Title Update) after release.

smart, interesting, seems out of place.

Official fan of Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, (Problem with that?) Halo, and Bungie, also a total gaming junkie.

CEA will save it. It has a title update and decent maps. Unless 343 tampered with the spawns and weapon placement.

First of all how would you know this and second, why would they not be allowed to fix a game with so many flaws? What I'm trying to say it would be in Microsofts best interest to keep their fans happy so they can take more of their hard earned cash with future releases?

I don't understand the logic behind this..

  • 11.13.2011 6:26 PM PDT

people are being overly dramatic. Drop in population? Well ofcourse...that happens when a bunch of anticipated games come out. If you enjoy it, that's all that matters.

and if you don't, wtf are you doing here?

i love how they say there being no 1-50 system killed reach...so you don't get a silly number next to your name...get over it. (i'm not saying that's the only thing people are complaining about, but you get the idea)

yeah there are problems...but seriously..quit being dramatic by saying "can halo be saved?!"

Numbers have been down for a while, even before the release of Battlefield and MW3. MLG forums are dead. Not one of my mates still play this game. I haven't been on for months and the only reason I am is for the TU. If it sucks, I might check back in with Halo 4 and I know many people feel the same..

Also, if you honestly believe people are only complaining about Reach because there is no 1-50 ranking system then you are ignorant plain and simple.

I don't know this... but then again I'm not the one saying such things like "Bungie let their ego get in the way" like a moron.

You're making the assumption that Bungie decided to just piss on all of us rather than make a level headed judgement about business.

Bungie was contracted to make another game. That contract does not have to include updating said game outside of things such as playlists and minor updates.

Microsoft signed a contract with 343i. That contract could include the updating of the game in the last line of the Halo series, which would be Reach.

Being as 343i is a new development company, no matter who heads it, Microsoft is putting their biggest franchise into an unproven company.

What's a good way to show you have the ability to handle such a task?

Make a re~make.
And take feedback from the prior game, that you are now taking control over, and updating it.

Because if 343i can't handle a TU and a re~make, what makes you think they can handle a blockbuster like Halo 4? And then Halo 5, and finally Halo 6?

like i said..overly dramatic.

I'm not saying the people complaining about 1-50 were smart. There are quite a few morons who have told me 1-50 would change their view on reach...which i agree, is silly. But like i said...if you enjoy it, it's "saved" for you.

So basically you're just guessing the same way I was guessing about their ego's? Nice one. A smart business move from Bungie would have been to let their fans know what was going on so they wouldn't make the assumptions that I and many others have made about them.

Also, it's great that 343 are picking up where Bungie left off but what I am asking was whether it was too late or not as I know many people have stopped playing Halo already.

Yes, it's called looking at it logically rather than being biased.

You've never heard of a Non-Disclosure Agreement?

It may be too late, yes, but in all seriousness... Halo as a whole just may not be as big as it used to be.

I don't care what they did or did not sign, at the end of the day most of the fans thought they were getting screwed by Bungie instead of supported. If that was part of their contract, to stay silent, then it was a pretty bad business decision by Bungie/Microsoft in my opinion.

lol

Ok... let's actually collaborate here.

First off... Ranking system.

Inability to de~rank by making it impossible to take steps backwards. You don't fall down the ladder, someone just climbs higher than you.

I.e. if you lose, the lowest you can go is 0 exp gained.

Also, put a cap on max Exp able to be earned. Meaning that killing someone up to 1 level higher will get you A exp, 2 levels B exp, 3 levels C exp but anything higher than that stops at C. This could curb boosting.

At the end of the day fans can also be quit blind to anything other than their own self serving needs and instead of thinking rationally they immediately think "we got screwed, Bungie sold out."

Non-Disclosure Agreements are part of every contract in the gaming industry by the way.

And it's not a bad decision on Microsoft's in the least.

Why?

You bought Reach. You currently hate it and want the "real" Halo back.

So you're going to buy Halo Anniversary and Halo 4.

Microsoft just made more money off you.

Win/Win.
