I've been reading first strike and every time they bring it up they say it's 6. What's up with it not being 7?

Not everything can be 7 related, or else the other numbers would get angry for being left out.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

When I read that it was six syllables I put the book down for several minutes and puzzled over that. Where are they cutting out the seventh syllable from? It makes my brain hurt to this day.

I heard someone say once (paraphrasing here) "Multiflag on Blood Gulch with your friends is what makes Halo, Halo." I GUARANTEE that more people agree with that sentiment than "Getting a 50 in MLG is what makes Halo, Halo." - Oboewan42

There are so many typos in those books I assumed they meant 7 and carried on.

Giggity Giggity Goo - Quagmire

When I say it I only get 5 syllables. The fabric of vocabulary is unraveling as we speak.

It's 7. It has to be, at least it's not as bad as that Fall of Reach date typo.

Omg this. Ever since I first read the books several years ago this has annoyed me. It makes no sense to me.

I assume Oly is pronounced with one syllable for the whole phrase to have only 5?

I am...whimsical today.

Was it 6 syllables, or 6 notes? I seem to remember the latter...

  • 11.14.2011 8:37 PM PDT

I will ALWAYS argue until I drop.

Can you guys not count or something? I have absolutely no idea how anyone can disagree that it's seven syllables; the book is obviously wrong.

Ol-y(2) ol-y(2) ox-en(2) free(1)

Learn how to count, or read.

Oly Oly Oxen Free is a six note, six beat tone used as an all clear code by the Spartan-II's. They learned it from Deja on Reach when they were younger and have been using it ever since. Spartans would either just whistle the tone or would whistle it and shout "Oly Oly Oxen Free" after. [1] The proper counter-response was "Oly Oly Oxen Free, All out in the free, We're all free."

The title doesn't have to match the tones, but I did get confused when I first read it.
