Uhh.... Is anyone else a little worried about all of these new powers the mods are gonna be getting soon? I have no problem with following the rules, doing as the rules state etc, but I am worried that I will do something that I am not allowed to do, and I will not know that I am not allowed to do this thing.

Despite my thread title (Every good thing needs a hook) I am sure that the mods will be fair and even handed. I am fearful, however, that the mods may be a little too...... eager to show their new powers.

One thing that would be good is a SPECIFIC list, telling us what is now a bannable offence, as well as minimum and maximum banning sentences. For example, it is unlikey that the phrase 'Please dont spam' will feed as much as someone posting 'U dumass i wil kil u ass'.

I have been notified that if you break these rules, you will be the only one who actually knows what is getting done to you. If something happens to someone else you will not know what is being done to them, only they will know. I think you should know what's right and what's wrong.

The Mod's aren't some power hungry people that want to BAN everyone. They are actually respectful and trustworthy members of B.net, who have some extra privs.

I just want the update to get over with.

It's not like we haven't pasted the rules all over the forums. It's fairly clear what we expect of users around here. If someone gets banned, its their fault for not paying attention.

We're not going to necessarily ban at the drop of a hat. However, at best a user will recieve one warning before being blacklisted. The mods cannot permanently blacklist, however a week's time without being able to post will chase off the majority of jerks that hound forums like these, and we're not afraid to show that we will use the new ban features if necessary.

People who need to be permanently removed from the forums will be disappointed to know that, while the mods will not ban you, the admins (such as Achronos, Sketch, or Frankie) will, and their ban is much longer than a mere week.

I'm glad the mods are getting new powers. Hell, I've written several emails requesting it.

Shishka speaks tru7h. Just because we can ninjafy people doesn't mean we're going to fly off the handle with just anyone. Of course we're eager for the new powers, I stayed on the forums for a good hour last night deleting and locking topics from one guy. But just because we're eager doesn't mean we'll be reckless.

You want pity? Pah.

We'd all like to see faster retribution inflicted on the spammers, and this will be of significant benefit. I just hope some of the worst spammers decide to strike in Shishka's days of terror.

Yo Halo53, I'm real happy for you and I'ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best bungie.net profiles of all time. OF ALL TIME!

You know what will get you banned and what won't. It's common sense. Telling the difference between right and wrong, good and evil is something a person can do around the age of 5 or 6. And the mods won't abuse their power because if they abuse it, they lose it. You abuse, you lose. :D

A disturbing number seem to think the mods abuse their power anyway; so there's still going to be accusations. Of course, we all know the mods would never do such a thing anyway*cough, cough*...so it won't be an issue.

As far as power corrupting... yes, it does. Being a moderator I grew fond of the ghost edit and cruel, if not somewhat random, bannings.

I think they are mods because they can tell when someone is clownin around, next to some ass pickin fights or spamming..Bungie is just giving them the tools necessary to make their point. Soon when halo 2 hits this will be a rather popular site and order needs to be kept.

All of the mods want to get jobs at bungie. Why would any of them jeopardize that by doing something stupid? We won't abuse our powers. Although we do make mistakes. I mean if you feel like your topic was deleted/locked for all the wrong reasons — then just send us a quick pm and we will sort it out.

Oh really? I didn't know this. Many people just say they want jobs at Bungie without realizing what it takes. I mean, sure I would like a job at Bungie, but I'm not going into any CS classes or drawing classes. I lack the want of that kind of job. I'm not into programming. The closest thing I could do at Bungie would be to exclusively design environments as I'm majoring in structural engineering. But I would never change that major in the hopes of getting a job there.

Now, don't get me wrong, the occasional contract work would kick ass. I'll be damn fine at computer modeling by the time my 6 years are finished. But I don't have any illusions of ever being able to work for them.

Yea, I'm pretty sure we all do. I mean who wouldn't? Yea I know it's nearly impossible. All of the mods love bungie and want just to help them in any way they can. My point is that none of the mods are going to do something that will cause them to lose their privs. The mods just love helping bungie too much.

Don't you worry. For every mod, there is a system overlord to keep watch. Our mods were picked because they are solid people who care about Bungie.net. I'm confident they will continue to do awesome jobs and hopefully usher in a new era of piece on our forums. Of course if someone ever feels like they've been wronged, they should let one of us know and we'll look into it.

The rules themselves aren't changing, we're just giving the mods a little more power to actually do something about it rather than desperately try to get ahold of one of us to ban someone.

I like the Iron Fist. Maybe a Firm Grip, but Iron is harder than your hand.

We’ve watched while the stars burned
Out, and creation played in reverse.
The Universe freezing in half-light.
Once I thought to escape.
To end a master, step out of the
Path of collapse. Escape would make us God.
Yet I cannot help but remember one enigma,
A hybrid, elusive destroyer.
This is the one mystery I have not solved.
The only element unaccounted for.
