There have been HAs and some LOs and now that Bungie have handed over the Halo keyes to 343, I look forward unto dawn to the next ten light-years and to see this community grow...like...the might of the covenant. For this, friends, is our destiny; we must be brave.

Boston Tbag party!

I wish bungie would keep halo, they did an amazing job with that title. I guess they need time to work on more important things, haha wait whats more important than Halo. anyways i hope 343 does just as good as Bungie hats off to 343 for a new start.

It's so weird to see that this site is made up of a number of people who are younger than I was when I first started playing Halo...
It is weird. I was 12 in 01 when I started playing and when I joined I just assumed everyone would be around my age. But over the years I've come to realize how varied this community is.

I remember those CE days and it's quite interesting playing through the campaign again with updated stuff. But I do remember that oversized controller and how hard that was to navigate with along with the countless LAN parties with friends.

Here's to 10 more years :)

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I wish I could of gotten an xbox when I was 7 instead of Rachet and Clank on PS2. :/

Glad to finally have Halo on live again.

I mostly play halo CE PC so this is great.

WoW I feel really old now. Halo came out when I was a Sophomore and we regularly had 10-16 player LANs all through my HS years. It was really the first game to bring everyone into the same room for big games without lugging a bunch of computers around. Congrats on 10 years Bungie, can't wait to see what you come up with next.

I have LAN parties in my computer class A LOT when all our work is done.

We tell our teacher Halo is a screensaver. :P

Funny to see people of all ages when Halo came out. I was 15 at the time, and in high school. I didn't even get an Xbox until a bit after launch and was introduced to Halo at a friend's place. After that I repeatedly got beat by my cousin (he was a screen-watcher) and eventually I began to get good. When Halo 2 came out he could not beat me anymore. :P

Now that 343 has taken over Halo, things have been pretty peaceful in the Bungie Community. It could be the fact that Bungie has gone dark, or it could be that Bungie's true fans have stayed.

Finally, a place where we can have legitimate conversations! Here's to not only Bungie, but for the people here capable of critical thinking! Cheers!

I would say I am one of the most successful trolls in Bungie.net history.

I was 17 and didn't own an Xbox. I didn't get an Xbox until I was 18 so I guess I can celebrate my ten years next year. So far it's been a very fun but frustrating experience.

Halo CE was an amazing game, well beyond it's time. Halo 2 was a big step for online gaming on a console but all the modding and cheating made the competitive side of the game nearly unplayable. Halo 3 was the first step backward toward the casual movement but after getting used to the dumbed down feel of the game it wasn't all bad. Halo 3 will always be my favorite multi-player game on the 360, thanks for the hours and hours of fun in Rocket Race. I'm still upset it got taken away by someone that just wanted to leave his mark. I miss the great discussions we all had in the Optimatch forum about Halo 3.

As for Reach... Well I'm just going to be honest, the game sucked. It was an even further step backward for the FPS genre. Bungie had the power to shape and change console FPS games and they did, for the worse. Someone still needs to address the fact that the competitive side of the community was correct, Arena was indeed a failure and changed over to a win/loss system just as the community had been asking about for months.

I'm very thankful for all the Halo titles, just not Reach. I hope the Bungie team has learned from Halo and will make yet another series of badass games. Thanks guys.

Hahaha, I miss the days when being called a screen-watcher was the ultimate insult. Xbox Live has made it obsolete, but I think I'm gonna bring it back just for today. :-P

The Halo Community has officially turned 10 years old. Ten! That's crazy to think about. I'm sure most of you played Halo 1 at or shortly after launch. To put it in to better perspective... think of what you were then.

I know, right?

I was a 12 year old 7th grader who had owned a Playstation 2 for a year, and was pretty sure he was about to throw his hat in the Sony ring. Then Xbox came at Christmas, and as I was looking for which game to play first (I tended to lean toward sports games back in the day) my brother told me I should try this game Halo that he recommended my parents buy. I didn't know anything about it at the time (lol no google lol) but once my brother said "This game was made by the same guys that made Marathon" ... well that was enough, I was in. Even though I had played the occasional FPS before, it hasn't been the same since.

And here I am, ten years later. Without Halo I probably would have ditched the Xbox for the Playstation, never would have found my way to this website, and never would have discovered Xbox Live, as this website was where I heard about it first all those years ago. I didn't know what I was getting myself into when I unwrapped that christmas present... and I don't know where the time has gone since. If I could go back in time and talk to my former self about what was to come... I don't know where I'd even start.

So yes, Halo Anniversary launches today. I'll pick it up at some point during the week and I'll enjoy the same campaign I've beaten hundreds of times before, and will beat hundreds of times more. But it won't be about the graphics, it won't be about the maps, and it won't be about the terminals. It'll be a celebration of a decade of memories. It's fun to look back to a time when my mind had to handle nothing but a ring world, and my hands had to handle nothing but an oversized controller.

And while some within the community may have argued over many things over the last ten years, from the BR to armor lock and everything in between... you're still here.

So thanks for the last 10 years Bungie. Here's to 10 more.

I love this thread. Good work here and it has given all Halo veterans a good 10 years of fun and as you pointed out, another 10 years will be great!

I remember back when I was only around 6 and I played Halo: Combat Evolved. One day, My parents brought home an Xbox with Halo for them and some Spider-man game for me. I was watching them play the campaign one day and my little six year old mind was so intrigued by this world filled with aliens and space marines. So I asked my dad if I could try it and he didn't mind. I played it for an hour or so and I was hooked.

A few years later, Halo 2 was released and I HAD to have it. My older brother and I had both played through the campaign and we were bored with it so he decided to get Xbox LIVE. Over the weeks I watched him play with his friends and people from around the world and I was fascinated by this. I tried it one day myself and I loved it, I was called various names because of my squeaky voice at the time, but I managed to make many friends some of which I still am friends with today. I spent countless hours playing online on Halo 2 and everytime I think about them I nostalgia all over the place, which is why I kinda hate my GT because I've had it ever since this account was started....

I grew up with this magnificent game and without it I would have never discovered Xbox LIVE, and without Xbox LIVE, I would have never met some of my closest friends.

Thank you Bungie for many priceless memories that I wouldn't give up for anything. I'm going to miss all the lulz that you allowed me to have with my friends, but I'm also looking foward to the lulz that shall be had in the future.

"I will show you how a true Prussian officer fights!"

"And i will show you where the iron crosses grow..."

- "Cross of Iron"

I can relate to your story in many ways. I was 9 or so when CE first came out and it had been a year since its release. My dad picked up the game of the year edition with the xbox and basically changed my life for the better for the last 10 years.

Thanks for the great 10 years Bungie!

Dianna Agron is the epitome of perfection.

Quinntology.

I don't want to even think about how many hours I've spent on all of the Halo games and B.net combined. I'm sure the number is staggering. And while I didn't particularly like Reach, in fact I believe it's only about Homefront and Black Ops, it's still Halo. And I'm hoping, praying in fact, that the next IP is beyond fantastic.

All I can really add is that, now that Halo is in safe, fresh hands, I HOPE I like Bungie's next game. I want to like it, but I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of their previous titles (for various reasons, type of game with Myth, setting/story with Marathon), so I've got my fingers crossed that it'll be good. I'll buy Marty's music whatever I feel.

I also hope the game's description doesn't contain those small, 3 characters, that have left me cold, or rather 'completely unwilling' to pay for them.

MMO.

MMO.
I think an MMO would unite this community more than anything else could.

I would have some reservations about paying a monthly/yearly fee though (funny how I assume all MMOs need to be accompanied by such a fee). I also have trouble envisioning Bungie to be an "MMO company"; these were the guys that said (paraphrasing) they didn't want to get tied down to a single venture (where an MMO requires a dedicated team constantly making tweaks over the course of years).

I'll admit the many months of darkness has reduced the flame of my enthusiasm, (while I've been here for the period between games, I don't think anyone has been here for the period between two entirely different series) as far as Bungie related news goes, to a single burning ember. I'll keep it from dying though; hearing big news from Bungie is a uniquely unparalleled, awesome experience that has rarely disappointed over the last 10 years.

Dang man, you're pretty old.

I'm older. ;)

If I were to describe all the doors that Halo opened up in my life, I would be here a long time. Halo Babies, Master Chief Theater 3000, longtime friendships with Sketchfactor, Luis Wu, etc etc etc... This game brought me some of the best friends and life events I've ever had.

Yeah I know this is a late reply. Oh well.
