I think they really messed up on the facial animations (and in many cases, the modelling as well) and it kind of has me worried for the new Halo trilogy. While I expect it to look more natural by then, I really wasn't expecting this. Cortana has a derp moment during the Chief's first meeting with Keyes. My Xbox broke a couple of weeks ago so I only got as far as Truth and Reconciliation at my girlfriend's so I don't know what else may lie in store for me.
I really dislike how they lowered the weapons in the first person projection, at least with the Assault Rifle. I really liked the original position. Ah well. The sniper rifle looks really odd in that position, though. Since it seems to be unaltered from its Reach counterpart, it really doesn't blend well with the reticle in the middle of the screen, unlike the other Halo games.
I'm on the fence as to the new camera angles and events during the cutscenes. I really loved the way the original opened, with the ring showing itself as the screen fades from black, with that eerie musical intro.
Despite all this, what I REALLY love is that finally, we have some next-gen shadow tech rearing its head! It's nice to see trees and objects casting shadows on the first person weapons and other objects properly. I definitely won't miss the old lighting and shadowing system, and I'm kind of shocked and upset that Reach didn't initially do so, especially with the redesigned engine.
I still think this game looks absolutely gorgeous, and I can't wait to see what the new trilogy will look like, as well as the rest of the game once I get my new Xbox. I'm really looking forward to The Maw! As far as I'm concerned, the only thing truly holding back the graphics is the use of the original terrain meshes for the ground. However, that is to be expected, and I don't find it detracts much at all, anyway.
I think Halo 3 is easily the best looking Halo game still. I only wish it had the shadow tech that CEA has.
