So I'm sure this would have it's certain advantages and disadvantages, but I'd like to know what you guys make of it. What if the original poster of a thread had the ability to hide replies? The reply would become collapsed just as if it was reported.

In certain cases, though, it wouldn't prove very useful as the reply is still there (a nod to Recon's "trophy post" rant) so what if the original poster could "delete" replies? Maybe something collapsed, but you can't expand it? (moderators could) Something like this would probably need to be made so that we can prevent stuff like the OP hiding posts that don't need to be hidden. That being said, this probably isn't a good idea.

I'd still like to know what inputs you could make so it could be a bit more foolproof. (moderator and employee posts would be exempts)

I'm thinking that it's a good reason; but a bad idea. I could see people making topics and casually deleting posts by users they disagree with, don't like or for no particular reason.

Same problem if you give the creator of the topic the ability to hide replies (and of course the favorite attract more attention attribute of hidden posts).

I think the report button is good enough (as long as a moderator is present every so often to also give warnings and bans).

I don't see a positive point to it.

If the OP had the power to hide/delete replies, then some would abuse it to hide/delete all replies that disagree with them.

That's why I asked to think of a plan that could prevent this...

You can't come up with a plan to stop idiots.

I guess what we're saying, by only pointing out the obvious flaws, is that there's no single best way to prevent these types of problem without creating more.

Maybe the moderators and Bungie could work together and harder to recruit more forum ninjas that're on at separate times of the day? That's all that I could come up with.

Off-topic edit: BTW, did you create this topic after seeing the "cena" spam on the flood?

Yax is a shining beacon in these dark times. You should all strive to be more like Yax.

Is it just me or did you neglect to mention why this is needed?

Sort of.

It isn't needed. If anything it would become sort of a backup thing in case the report system isn't doing it's job. Something between the report system and having to get mods involved...

Oh, okay.

OPs should never have that ability though. Sure, you could let them collapse posts for themselves but not collapse them on others' behalves. They'd just hide all the ones they don't like or whatever.

They should never be trusted with that power, just like they should never be able to lock their own threads.
