Do you think they'll be on par with IIs or IIIs?

Superior.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

They should technically superior... But who knows.

A Spartan IV Project is theorized, but I doubt the UNSC will have the resources to fund such a project for at least the next 30 or so years. They have to massively conduct their efforts on recolonizing.

I mean, are they going to be enhanced with drugs like the IIIs or implants like the IIs?

  • 11.16.2011 1:33 PM PDT

Ad Infinitum

My theory is that ONI is going to take everything they've learned from the previous Programs, and build upon them. What worked with the Orion project? What didn't? What worked with the Spartan II Program? What didn't? They're going to thoroughly analyze each aspect of each program, and improve them. If you combine that with reversed-engineered Covenant tech, and a bit of non-bastardized Forerunner tech mixed in there somewhere, you're probably looking at something that far surpasses the II or III programs.

I don't think spartans 1s bones are strong enough to take MJOLNIR.

So basically Spartan IVs will be the Mary Sues of Spartans.

Anyone else find it odd that a brand new Spartan program was created right out of the blue with no explanation whatsoever?

Sounds to me like a cheap plot device.

Are you referring to SPARTAN III or II?

No, the Spartan-IVs. Apparently some are stationed on the UNSC Infinity already.

Ah. Well, they are technically Spartans, but they didn't recieve the same training that the IIs and IIIs. Akerson and Halsey were supposed to lead the organization, but Akerson died and Halsey's trapped in Onyx so it kind of flopped.

Apparently it didn't stop ONI from continuing the program. And the fact it's adult volunteers concerns me. They kidnapped kids because augmenting adults had a very low success rate while kids fared better. You can say the medical tech improved over time, but even the latest S-III class was still created from pre-pubescent kids. I kinda doubt such a medical breakthrough would happen 3 months after a 30+ year war.

A lot of people hated the Spartan II and III programs because of the fact the candidates were kidnapped and augmented. However, ONI decided it was necessary to stop the Insurrection and beat the Covenant. However, if I'm remembering correctly, IV was created after the Human-Covenant war, so they switched over to adult volunteers because it was more humane the the need for Spartans wasn't as great. Correct me if I'm wrong, though. =)

It's more humane, but not as effective as Project Orion taught us.

ODST's hated the spartan program because they were foolishly jealous. Thats it.

Clones are only getting flak now because of Glasslands but i am sure 75+ kids (including washouts) Fighting to keep our race together and later alive is more than justifiable.

Why did you skip the spartan III project? a Project that was made specifically for the covenant and only included suicide soldiers.

The Spartan IV project only goes for Adults due to the advancements made by past projects. If it wasn't for that children would still be taken (if they aren't already).

This thread is in reference to Glasslands, I take it?

I hope Traviss doesn't make it so the SPARTAN-IVs are better than the SPARTAN IIs or even the SPARTAN-IIIs. That'd just be ridiculous. I realize that they are indeed, SPARTANS. But, the IIs and IIIs have trained since they were around 6 years old. Not to mention, this training makes present-day Ranger School look like a picnic. So, if the IVs are some how miraculously these awesomesauce, kickass SPARTANs...I'm going to be a little disappointed.

Didn't think about that.

They would have the upperhand in augs and tech but you are correct in them being inferior .. combat wise.(?)

Well, with the augmentations and armor they'll be better than the average ODST. But, I don't think they should compare to the S-IIs and S-IIIs. In what way are they inferior? Idk. Haven't really thought much into that, but they should be.

"Find where the liar hides, so that I may place my boot between his gums!" - Rtas 'Vadum

Augmentation and technology wise they should be equal to or better than the IIs and IIIs, unless medical technology just stopped advancing for some reason. ONI is not likely to spend money on a program that they know does not work, so we can be sure that they have found a way around the problems of the original ORION program. As for training, they probably will not be as good. The other programs were trained since childhood for between 6 and 8 years. The Iv's will have years of experience though before they were augmented, so that might account for something. I am thinking perhaps ODSTs on steroids for the Spartan-IVs, which would still be a force to be reckoned with. Probably quite capable of going toe-to-toe with Elites.
