Ok, someone give it to me straight, assuming both have a 2ms response time (or just essentially identical response times), would it be more advantageous for playing halo reach to have a 22inch monitor rather than a 24inch monitor? E.g. would I be able to control my dmr and snipes slightly better on the 22inch, and would it make it easier to take in the whole picture? Also, is there really any noticeable difference when using the dmr or snipes between a 2ms response time and a 5ms response time? People always say that anything below 8ms it doesn't matter because the human eye can't process it, but I want any little advantage I can get. This is doing my head in. Whenever I go from split screen to full screen I always find i struggle to aim, and that my dmr is never as good as on split screen regardless how much practice I have on full screen. Would there be a similar (although obviously much less) difficulty in comparing a 22 to 24inch monitor? I'm really looking for the best possible experience, although I don't want anything smaller than 22inch because I will occasionally be split screening with someone.

I don't give a rat's ass about dynamic colour contrast and beautiful pictures and all that crap, I just wanna be able to shoot good.

Thanks for your time.

22 inch is a good size. TV's around that size are easier to play Halo on because your peripheral vision has less of an area to focus on.

So do you reckon that there is a clear line between the 22 and 24 inch where you'd say 'it took longer to process what was going on on the screen because it was using up more of my peripheries'? This probably seems really pedantic but I just wanna make sure I don't regret buying whatever I do.

The bigger the TV, the further away you have to sit for your peripheral vision to line up. Sitting further away means you miss small details (unless your eyes are really sharp)

22 to 24 inch isn't that big of a gap, so you can get the one you're comfortable with. Something like 36 inch though would require you to sit further back from the TV than if it were the 24 inch.

My TV is 18.5 inches and I sit about 2 feet away from it since it's on my computer desk. I have to sit 10 feet from my 60 inch downstairs though because if I sit any closer I miss stuff on the corners of the screen

Nerd Ferguson just buy a 60 inch plasma and get some blu ray dvds thats all u need to do.

What does pedantic mean? God damnit Ferguson

Usually a smaller screen is better up to a certain point. Stop crapping your pants and get the 22

  • 11.16.2011 2:45 AM PDT

hahaha well I'm definitely not getting a 60 inch plasma, can't tell if you're trolling or serious. In Australia I can't really find a 22inch with a 2ms typical response time, but there's this sweet as 24inch with a 2ms response time, and I can get it for a good price. This is why I ask, I wanna know if I should just bite the bullet and get it or whether it will be slightly better with a 22 inch, to the point where I will regret getting the 24. OK!?

Forget it man, and get with the countdown. Shake this square world and blast off for Kicksville.

Reach host ranking algorithm: (a*quit_percentage + b*isMexican + c*(1/KDR) + d*hasGuest) * 100
where a > b = d > c

I don't think you'll find much of an effective difference between 24 and 22 inches.

Course, you wouldn't find much of an effective difference between 2ms and say 5ms latency either. Consider that controller latency in a 30 fps game like Reach is probably 113ms+

Best Intro: Baka to Test and Angel Beats!
Best anime to my eyes: Angel Beats!
First anime to make me cry: Clannad
Most time with me laughing: Baka to Test
Most Gory: Elfin Lied.
Favorite Character: Kanade Tachibana <3
All these are bound to change over time obviously.

I find smaller TV's to be more effective. Not the LCD or Plasma monitors either. Good ole fashion Tube TV's. I have a 19 inch flatscreen for gaming. I love it.

but i have the vision that goes evrywhere not in a straight line so maybe thats why.

Take a step back with me and enjoy a taste of the bittersweet that is our current generation.

I enjoy Battlefield and Call of Duty, and Gears of War.

I love anything political.

I would never buy a TV based on what game I'm playing.

I'm not buying a TV, I already have a TV, which doesn't play so well with halo. I'm buying a GAMING monitor. And halo is pretty much the only game I play. And from time to time I'm known to play, well, a -blam!-load of it. Fair dibs?

loltastrophe have you played on a 24? Just because your 22 is good doesn't mean a 24 wont be just as good? Fair enough call?

I guess? Do whatever the hell you want. Why even ask for opinions if you're going to draw that conclusion yourself?

I wasn't trying to be a dick about it, but I guess it definitely reads that way. I'm just saying, you said go with it for sure, but wouldn't it have made more sense to just say that the 22" is very good but I can't comment on the 24". Once again, it probably sounds like I'm being a dick but I'm not, I just want sound advice, I'm just being logical.

20-24" monitor you won't be able to the tell the difference. This will all depend on how close you sit and so forth. Most gamers have created their own little setups away from their normal TV and only sit 2-5ft from their gaming monitor.

You won't be able to tell which size is better because there is no difference when discussing such a small difference. You need to look at specs on a monitor and response time is not always the case. Many different aspects go into what works, such as what is native for the monitor and and what inputs.

HDMI or VGA to Monitor
VGA to HDTV(rarely ever is HDMI good on a TV)

Here is a good one:
I also have this one and love it

Get the Asus vh236h. Best price to performance monitor out there.

I got one and it's excellent for Halo Reach. In fact, it's the official monitor of MLG.
