American hosts are better because the servers are based here in America.

I don't want to argue the point of this topic, but this sentence makes entirely no sense whatsoever. Halo matchmaking is P2P based. The servers only exist to disseminate playlist data and match players together. Once a game starts, the location of the servers is meaningless.

I dont want to argue either, but if someone is closer to where the server is than their probably going to be host and get better gameplay.

Besides which, the average quality of American internet isn't that great. Better than Australia, yes, but you're certainly not the best in the world by a long shot.I never said we were, but the servers are based here which is why the Americans usually gets host, but it usually depends who has the best connection.

What part of server location having nothing to do with host reliability/quality do you not understand?

if a team of 10 germans make a game in italy, it's not a italian game kid

u mad?
Your logic is flawed buddy. If they made the game in Italy it kinda does make it an Italian game. But, it just so happens Bungie who is based in USA made the game, so that makes it an American game dumbass, I dont even know what made you think it wasn't an American game?

Quality/reliability has a lot to do with server location.

The blinded patriotical fanboy can't see that less than half of the producers at bungie aren't american thus it's an international game.

They don't call it an international gold medal when someone of Japanese descent wins a gold medal for the United States in the Olympics.

It's an American game. Made in America.

I find it funny that in all your comments that you call me kid, as if you think im a kid.
OT: Are you really this retarded? It doesn't matter what race they are, if the producer is based in the US then its an American game, so no, your logic does not stand.

I just can't win.

Wasn't aware it was possible to leap 20 metres through the air and attach yourself to a banshee.

Oh and another relevant rant: Australian host isn't as bad for Americans as American host is for Australians, so give us host once in a while you -blam!- of a game.

Quality/reliability has a lot to do with server location.

The games are not hosted on said servers, Reach is peer-to-peer. Which means once the game starts, the location of the server that was used to simply set up the game is irrelevant.

How about a country search setting that makes it so you only play with people in your own country?

That's a good idea.

and how does the game determine who has the better overall connection to the players in game to be host?

does it go from person to person testing everyone ignoring the servers or do the servers do an overall test and then chooses host?

hm...

A combination of the former and an ongoing host record tied to your console ID.

'Good Connection' is pretty much the equivalent of this, however with Reach's dwindling population search times make this unpractical. Besides, even in a game with 90% Australians I still find it gives the Yank host most of the time.

Just in case certain people in this thread want to persist with their willful ignorance.

http://halo.bungie.org/misc/networkguide.html#08
The host is determined by who lives closer to Bungie's/Microsoft's servers

False, but understandable. The host is determined by connectivity to other players, the connection history, and a degree of randomness. That said, Americans are more likely to get host than those playing internationally for several reasons:

1. A lot of Halo players are from the US, so any game you play is likely to have several American players in it.
2. Because US players tend to have decent connections to each other, and there are more of them, they have a much greater chance of building up a good host record. This then has the side effect of causing them to get host even more in international games.
