Qbix did what he had to do, personally, I think 'blanket' bans are acceptable, everyone who replies to these threads deserves almost the same punishment as the OP.

OP - You're a dumbass with the reading comprehension skills of a second grader.

Can someone tell me what's wrong with these two, this made me LOL hard.

People who post pictures of male parts? Not really.

Ken. Ken. Listen. It is not just about it being spam. It is about it being the most obvious spam/bad thread you can find. We use it extremely rarely.

They should blanket ban this thread for the laughs.

I think blanket bans should be used more often as it would discourage people from being idiots.

No, they shouldn't.

I know posting on a spam thread is against the rules but it happens all the time and 73 people just got screwed.

(assuming everyone other than Qbix and OP posted once).

Oh well, at least this kind of things is rare.

Whilst I appreciate that an obvious spam thread like this causes problems, there are other issues that arise.

For instance, I only have time to browse Bnet during my lunch hour (and a few sneaky other peeks) whilst at work.

We have a preventative image / link bloker, which means a lot of links on Bnet do not work for me.

If I had posted in that thread, I would have been banned for posting in a spam thread I would never have known was spam as the OP link would not have worked...

I know this is a rare occasion - but I would have been banned through no fault of my own.

Haha. Are you joking?

Those people are banned as soon as we get around to do it. We don't deliberately wait half an hour until we ban them.

Yeah I only do it in super obvious cases like these. Honestly, the OP was just a picture of a male genitalia.
Yet you dont ban the -youknowwhat-spins. You just let them post it over and over and over and over for about 10-30 minutes.

If you had reported it using a message instead of doing the all-too-obvious "you're not doing your job" variation this would have been taken care of much faster, thank you very much.

Any mods mind banning the racists in this thread?

If you're going to ban people for making jokes in a spam thread, why not ban the ones acting like jerks in a good thread?

I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

There could be some innocent people in there who were banned for no reason. This is one place where friendly fire should not be on.

I work for the Department of Defense.

For them. For what that's worth. I'm always for more banning of idiots.

Like the days when Shishka was on his period and went on a rampage.... Or when Evilcam was in honeybadger mode.

Blanket bans are entirely fine with me, however I WISH this forum had 4chan's sage ability. I am not sure if they coined sage's functionality, but being able to reply to a thread to vent your frustration with how stupid the OP is without bumping it would be more than therapeutic for me.

In a perfect world, a sage ability would be a nice addition, but god knows it would be abused by trolls soooooo bad around here.

I've suggested it on the Flood in the past. Everyone told me I was dumb for thinking of it.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

50,000 people used to post here. Now it's a ghost town.

But yeah, that's cool. In the case of that thread I think anyone who was posting and bumping it was demanding a firm banning.

  • 11.17.2011 4:56 AM PDT

Feel free to send me messages, please be willing to wait 6-8 years for a reply.

1-7 hours if you at least tried to make it readable.

Immediately if you are Yax, Telec, or legendary.

Never if you are mythic, you guys smell funny.

Blanket bans are a good lesson, its not like its hard NOT to reply to spam.

Hello, I'm Mr AwesomePizza. I like pizza and I'm a man. Reasoning for the name. I like to listen to the classics of music, write poetry, play video games, and much much more. I'm always down for a nice chat, so please hit me up for some conversation.

If you break the rules you deserve to be banned. When in obvious situations like that, the people in the thread knew that it was an inappropriate thread. If they didn't, then I worry about them...

Haha wow. Do the mods have to ban individually or is there a single button which bans everyone in a thread? I would imagine banning everyone individually would get a bit tedious.

For some reason this made me imagine a phone app for ninjas, where blanket banning was as simple and clicking the thread, and dragging a blanket from the bottom of the screen up over the thread xD

There's an app for that.

Like many companies which have reaped the benefits of smartphones, I believe there's a Bungie interal app that allows such actions.

So what you're saying is the report button is useless? Because that same thread, I hit report, as did several others and it wasn't until AFTER I went to bed at Midnight that some [beyond] offensive posts and posters still weren't dealt with (and at least one had been up for 5 hours by then).

I don't get it - some guy posts links to a -blam!- and you ban him and everyone who replied to his thread, but some guy talks about -blam!-s and the thread doesn't get moderated (while YOU and SEVERAL others were posting HERE) for 5-7 hours.

Others on this forum have a HUGE point, moderation here really is bad.

This. That rule needs to be enforced more.
