And there were no survivors...

That is kind of dumb, mods need to be more consisitant.

erm wat.

In what way did they fail to enforce the rules?

If you had reported it using a message instead of doing the all-too-obvious "you're not doing your job" variation this would have been taken care of much faster, thank you very much.

Any mods mind banning the racists in this thread?

If you're going to ban people for making jokes in a spam thread, why not ban the ones acting like jerks in a good thread?

So what you're saying is the report button is useless? Because that same thread, I hit report, as did several others and it wasn't until AFTER I went to bed at Midnight that some [beyond] offensive posts and posters still weren't dealt with (and at least one had been up for 5 hours by then).

I don't get it - some guy posts links to a -blam!- and you ban him and everyone who replied to his thread, but some guy talks about -blam!-s and the thread doesn't get moderated (while YOU and SEVERAL others were posting HERE) for 5-7 hours.

Others on this forum have a HUGE point, moderation here really is bad.

The report button current works as intended, but it only works as well as it's used. The number of reports must hit a predefined threshold before it will show up in the report queue from what I understand, if the thread did, then it appears that not enough people cared and/or thought it was worthy of a moderators attention. Often I hear people cry foul about this and every time it gets a "well the report queue is empty".

Likewise, if you feel the thread needs immediately attention there's the mod stalker which gives you a good idea of which mods are currently active and you can message one of them with the offending thread.

The mods here aren't as bad as you all try to make them seem. Oh dear, a bad thread slips through the crack, it happens everywhere.

As for blanket bans, I encourage more of them. Do not reply to spam.

And yet, someone mentioned it in THIS thread, supplied a link to THE THREAD IN QUESTION, and nothing was done until after 1am PST. Obviously the system doesn't work as well as some believe; a review is certainly in order.

And the Shadow fell upon the Land, and the World was riven stone from stone. The oceans fled, and the mountains were swallowed up, and the nations were scattered to the eight corners of the World. The moon was blood, and the sun was as ashes. The seas boiled, and the living envied the dead. All was shattered, and all but memory lost, and one memory above all others, of him who brought the Shadow and the Breaking of the World. And him they named Dragon.

I took care of it as soon as I saw it. Posting links to rule violations in random threads isn't exactly the best way to go about things.

You expect the mods to troll threads looking for people providing links to people who are breaking the rules? Wow. Usually a PM will do the trick. They aren't robots.

Everyone is entitled to their own wrong opinion.

I'm part of the Bungie.net Minecraft group/server called SeptaCrafters
We're a Bungie.net group that goes to our very own Bungie server. Most players are from the Halo community either off Bungie itself or through word to Halo friends.

I always wondered by people replied to spam. If they know its spam why do they post saying "don't reply, its spam"

Never seen a Carpet ban before. That thread is very short.

OP - You're a dumbass with the reading comprehension skills of a second grader.

Can someone tell me what's wrong with these two, this made me LOL hard.

No, I expect that if people are hitting the report button AND posting links to the thread in question, AND mods are responding to posts on the SAME page as the post with the link, it wouldn't take 3-4 hours to for a moderator to moderate.

As far as reviewing threads, it IS what they are supposed to do, with reasonable allowances given due to the volume of posts made in a span of 10 minutes and the fact they each have lives to live, but this was a complete failure of the system.

I'm not faulting you Qbix, but the report system definitely failed, and gives credence to some of the complaints about the moderating system.

Yeah, I know.

This topic is about blanket bans. If I hadn't seen this topic, I would have PMed someone. But I wanted to use this to discuss blanket bans.

Do I need to link to that Wikipedia article about "motive fallacy" again? Because I think people are getting tired of seeing it from me.

RIP Halo 2: November 9, 2004-May 10, 2010
I was the 2nd to last person to get kicked off Halo 2, see the thread Here

I hate the idea of carpet banning. Just because they reply to spam, doesn't mean their post had bad intentions. They could have been trying to help in some way, and yet still be punished.

Qbix forgot to ban himself on page 3. I should help him.

Lol do it. Mod wars are funny.

  • 11.17.2011 11:36 AM PDT

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Yeah but when the thread is about -blam- there really is no on-topic response that DOESN'T break rules.

But in other spam threads where there can be a rational discussion or response, people shouldn't be banned if they act rationally and not go "LOL TROLL".
