Why are most people idiots to driving a warthog, I mean come on its not that hard, my first time I drove it, it was pretty easy, and its easy to get really good, after using it a couple mor times I got really good, and able to keep me and my gunner most of the time after successfully raiding the base(killing them, not getting the flag), but still half the people online when driving get out of the driver seat, letting the guy sit there with like 6 guys only feet away. Drivers never get out of the driver seat, its common sense, becasue instantly you'll get genraded, plus its not smart to leave a guy in a warthog with 6 enemies right on top of you, shooting AR's at close range and throwing genrades only feet away. I can't tell you how many times this has happened to me, and how many times I died. I don't think in all my time of playing Halo PC that this tatic has ever worked. It's just plain idiotic.

Don't drink to excess– You might shoot at tax-collectors... and miss

Computer: Power Mac G5 CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (2.2) Number Of CPUs: 2 CPU Speed: 1.8 GHz L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB Memory: 1.25 GB Bus Speed: 900 MHz

ATi Radeon X800 XT Mac Edition
Display Type: LCD Resolution: 1680 x 1050 Depth: 32-bit Color

That's why I'll go for a ghost if one is available. The other problem is gunners who don't shoot. They just go along for the ride, or they shoot anywhere but where you want them to, even if they're not shooting at anything. Chain guns nevr run out– just keep shooting as long as you're not hitting team mates.

I watch my gunners health and my shields. If my shields are low, his will be also. Get something between your hog and the enemy– a base, a hill,, distance, anything to let your shields come back up. Then come back around and keep hitting them hard. They'll think you can't be killed.

When gunners health goes down, get out of there. Go back to home base if needed. Drive near your TPs so that if you die, you or a team mate can pick up the hog– don't die at hostile base and give the hog away.

A lot of gunners don't pay attention to their health level. I've had gunners with one bar of health not be able to figure out why I returned to base and typed "gunner get health." Dead gunners kill drivers.

Obviously, change direction alot. Always try to drive where your oponent thinks you will not be.

Ummm why did you even say that, that doesn't even realte as to why people are idiots when it comes to warthogs, unless your making suggestions to them.

People are idiots when it comes to warthogs because they think "Oh look! A car! With a big, dangerous chain gun! I'll be invincible in this!"

But not all people show idiotic behavior when using warthogs. I have met plenty of gunners and drivers with lots of skill. That's why I love the warthog. The driver and the gunner have a mutual symbiosis, because they help one another. In order to use the warthog effectively, there's a lot of team work involved. If a driver can trust his gunner to save his butt and a gunner can trust that his driver knows where he's going, that's good, because that's the key to success.

Honestly though, I've met quite a few retarded drivers before. It's not that hard to drive the warthog, or use the chain gun.

I think i'm pretty skilled both as a gunner and a driver and i also use intuition and fast thinking when doing so.

One time we'd got to their base, i was driving, the gunner got out and got the flag and got back in again and that was it i sped away but one of them had a rocket hog and was in close persuit. The gunner of the rocket hog started firing at us so i used quick thinking and altered my course a little and drove behind a boulder on the ground, giving us a brief second of shielding, causing the rocket to hit the boulder and not us. (for which i then got accused of cheating lol)

If i'm in the gunner seat and we get to their base and my driver gets out for the flag.. As soon as i seem him getting out, i jump out too and dive into the drivers seat and drive around their base a few times so i'm not just sitting around and endagering our escape plan lol.

warthogs are awesome if you no how to use them as long as u don't try and kill a guy with a rocket launcher.
something people can't seem to get through there heads is that you don't get out of the driver seat with the gunner just sitting there. 1. b/c a still target even a n00b sniper can hit and 2. some one will drop a frag grenade in the gunners little perch like thing. then they don't even have time to hop out.

I couldn't stop laughing one time when I ran this guy over with the warthog and he had the rocket launcher.

You know what, I think a large majority of people that play halo are complete idiots. (Although nobody here falls into that category)

What I do is I take a warthog by myself normally and if someone else wants to come along I make them be the gunner.
I get a rocket launcher and jump out if I get in a hog chase, and shoot them. They don't expect it so I normally end up killin the other hog people.

I remember i was playing Yoyorast Island, race game type, and as always the team i'm on never complete laps, and me and Yoyorast (the map creator) were in a worthog (me driving, him gunner) and we just played well together, him shooter chasers, and me running away from them, trying to complete a lap with people with rocket launchers and snipers and so on waiting at points, when halo games go like that, that's when games are perfect!

Yeh i tend to take a warthog by myself unless somebody starts shooting at me because they want to be the gunner. I can run circles around the enemy base and not get blown up or killed lol. That kinda annoyes them a little bit..

I also tend not to take the more "direct" route to their base because they're expecting you to do that. I take a less scenic route, through a cave for example

Ya, I know some people are great and are professionals when it comes to being a driver and gunner. One time on death Island, this guy was in a stationary warthog with him being the gunner, this other warthog came by with only a driver, the guy shot like maybe 5 rounds, the next you know the other warthog came slowly to a stop.

Also, if you're pretty skilled and have some lucky when driving a warthog like me, you can run people over quite a bit. One time I ran like maybe 5 people over in one run. It's funny when you come from behind like 5 people with a warthog, man thats just funny.

Also just to let you guys know, the chaingun is much more accurate when it comes to single shot and burst shots. With single shots, the shot goes directly in the middle of the crosshairs, with burst fire, it the same with the single shot. Since the warthog chaingun shoots at around the rate of 600 round per minute, if you click fast enough, you can get every shot to be near 100 percent accurate, with the same rate of fire as full auto. But this is only if you're a good gunner and aim well, like me.

Because people overuse Warthogs and are simply stupid to get off them while there 7 guys shooting at you and by the time you of they have already grenade you or fill you up with lead.

People call other people hog noobs, well, when you are in a hog already, and there are like 5 people around you, what are you gonna do, get out and try to kill them all, or just run them over and get them out of your way?

What? Play a game? FOR FUN???
This concept of fun confuses and infuriates me!

~We inturrupt the topic for a special announcement!~
Ok, bit of advice.
If you have a Rocket Laucher..
AIM AT THE *OD DAMN VEHICLES! Don't waste your freakin ammo on one guy, the get ran over in the next second!
I absoultly hate morons who do that. ROCKETS ARE FOR VEHICLES, NOT SPARTANS!

~now back to the topic at hand.~

Oh man. I can't tell you how many times that thats happened. I get a ride to the enemy base, but the driver jumps out, leaving me to get my ass whipped, and him dying soon after. It's too bad really. I only wish that people knew how you use a hog..
One driver, one gunner and one passenger. First, drop off passenger. Make rounds around base. If passenger dies, drop off gunner. Repeat. If gunner dies, either driver continues to splatter people till death, or make an attempt for the flag or just go back to base for more help.
That simple.

I disagree with your evaluation. I believe the best order going for the flag is the puke seat jumping out first. This leaves the hog mobile and the gunner active. Next goes the driver, leaving the gunner in position to cover his assault on the flag. If the gunner jumps out there is no one in position to shoot while he goes for the flag and we all know how a well placed nade will end your thoughts of running down opponents on your own. If you are gunning and the driver jumps out before you do, feel free to take the wheel, but I think you stand a better chance remaining at the gun.
As for choice of hogs (rocket vs chain gun) My choice depends on the map. An open map like Blood Gulch or Infinity should be done with a chain gun. Maps where you have little time for the kill because of close quarters and tight corners require a rocket.

my strategy for taking down hogs is to take a rocket launcher and switching back to my pistol. then when i see a hog i will shoot the driver a couple times with my pistol to get his attention. Chances are he'll drive straight towards me, in which when he is about 10 feet from me i pull out the launcher and blast his ass to hell. What i really hate are drivers that go 4 feet and stop, when its clear that a sniper is near. Or i will drive around the base and wait for the gunner to get out, and he doesnt. In that case i try to put him far enough away so it takes some skill to nade him, but close enough so i can get the flag and for the gun to be effective. I did that with one guy and i think he got 6 kills while i got the flag and still had all of his health bars, too. That was one of the best runs i think ive ever been in.

  • 04.30.2006 12:49 PM PDT

Some people just aren't as good at it as others. Suck it up and deal with it. The people driving the hogs are probably playing for fun. You should to.

You clearly don't get what I'm trying to say, ok I do have fun ith the warthog, its just that most people who drive the warthogs have no common sense, I guess you didn't read what everyone said and what I said. Most of the time, the driver just leaves you out there, with the whole enemy team just feet away from you, so the guy can get the flag. Who would do that, then you get killed leaving you to wait around 10 seconds every time. Thats what the passenger seat is for, and I don't think you would want to wait 10 seconds every single time. It has nothing to do with the driving, most of the time, the person is decent at driving and gunners are decent too. But they don't have common sense, like if they see a guy with a rocket they try to run over the guy going striaght at him, or what i said before earlier in the paragraph.

If i'm on a server that has tanks and rockets i don't use any vehicles at all lol.. I never drive directly at a guy holding a launcher that's just asking to get blown apart.
