Subject: Why the hate for reach?

i actually never bought reach (as you can see if you look at my service record) mainly because after the beta came out i kinda lost interest in video games for a while. so i havent been on these forums in a while. when i left the forums in the summer of 2010 everybody was happy and exited for the new game and then i come back and everyone hates reach and says its awful! WHAT HAPPENED! having found my love for video games especially halo (which is one of my favorite game frachises ever) again i want to buy the game (yes i know its late but i figure ill get a year out of it) but now im confused as to all this hate towards reach?

i never bought reach but ive played it alot at friends houses and stuff and ive always really liked it. im not a huge fan of AA's but i dont really mind them. and i really enjoyed the single player too. so why did this game "fail" in the eyes of this community? was it bloom? or AA's? or something else that i have to buy the game and experiance for my self?

Imagine a triangle. It's perfect, but a little plain. You take a chisel, and carve a small decorative symbol into it to make it a little more interesting. People like it, but it could use a little more.

So you then take a sledgehammer..

This belongs in the Reach forum;you'll get much better replies and it won't be locked.

Don't -blam!- with Kerser!

It wasn't a Halo game. It was a random game they made and stuck Halo on the cover. Also, they just executed the story all wrong.

Halo Reach is the way it should be. It is a different Halo game and it fits snugly with offered ODST and Halo 3. I would tend to say Halo 3 lets you be God and Reach restricts you in ways. These are both perfect equations. If you don't like one, that's your preference. I prefer Halo 3 usually but there is nothing wrong with Reach. The Halos are different and everyone has their preference. I like to play the one I'm in the mood for.

Because hating Halo Reach is cool, but disliking anything about Glasslands makes you a horrible person.

Don't get me wrong I love Reach to death. But that's just it, I love it as Reach, I don't love it as a Halo game. It doesn't at all feel like Halo and I don't play it as Halo.

hahahahaha epic. But sadly: true.

There is nothing fundamentally wrong with Reach. It's a great game, and also a real Halo game. If you don't feel it's a Halo game something's a bit off to be honest...it has all the classic elements of Halo minus a focus on Forerunners. That being said the story isn't without it's flaws and the multiplayer is good except for many of the original maps being kind of mediocre (Noble, Defiant and Anniversary mappacks are really great however!) and the inclusion of some of the AA's like Armor Lock.
Now with the TU coming and Anniversary eliminating the AA's you will see the Reach multi actually is really good.

But like Cmdr also said: there are some who were very vocal in their critisism on Reach and a vast majority just followed that blindly: hating on Reach is cool. Don't let people convince you it's a bad game. It's not. It's just a different take on Halo, just like ODST was a different take on Halo, and to be honest: it's a nice break from the trend of the main series.

No. Something isn't off with me. It does in no way feel like a Halo game to me. Believe it or not but ODST does. "real Halo game" this annoys me heaps. How can you say that. Do you have any reasons? (Not trying to start anything here)

No, Anniversary gametypes still have AA's and bloom in them. I havn't played Reach online (properly), in almost 3 months.

"Hating on reach makes you cool" Yeh, totally. Only idiots think they are cool because they wrote something on the Internet. I actually give reasoning for my hatred of it as a Halo game.

Just think about this. Halo: Reach is packed with new features. Firefight is fully customizable. Much better custom game options. New weapons. Tonnes better forge. New file browsing features. Alot more armour. New gametypes. Special gametypes. And much more. Now think about this. Why do I still like every other Halo better? Why do I still dislike it?

Why do you feel personally attacked, while I haven't even directed my post against you?

I'm not even going into discussion with you on that behalf.

And no: if you play Anniversary Slayer for instance, there is NO Bloom, and there are NO AA's. And guess what: even though you also get a hybrid Reach-CEA playlist (with altered AA's and reduced Bloom) people always vote for Anniversary mode...

What? I don't feel attacked. Thats why I quoted. It's just how I write. Don't tell me I wrote all that for nothing.

You sounded as if felt attacked by my post, and I'm not in a mood to start a "war" right now ;)

As for Reach being a true Halo: it has all the classic elements:
- Covenant
- UNSC - Spartans
- It's important place within the Universe
- The gameplay is as you'd expect from a Halo game
- The music, while not as epic as H2's or ODST's for instance, are typically Halo
- The multiplayer is typically Halo in how it functions etc.

It's a real Halo in every sense of the "word". Take the leveldesign for instance: every level is a homage to one of the great levels from all the Halo's before it.

The only things that make it "different" are the AA's (but to be honest, in that aspect H3 also burned its fingers on Equipment), Bloom, and it's more gritty looks (which I personally liked after H3 went overboard on the coloring and almost became a parody on itself). Now I can understand people don't like the looks, but that doesn't make it less Halo. And sure: AA's like AL were annoying as hell and Bloom is better off gone. But play Reach today with the TU rules applied and you'll find a game thats not that different from H3 for instance.

It's like Halo Wars: yes, it's different but it's still 100% Halo in every way.

Not for me. I don't really think it sounds Halo-ish. Except "From the vault" (I suggest listening to the whole thing) when walking into Halseys lab easter egg. That is the most epic Halo experience ever, because of that song.

I was going to quote most of your stuff but I think the reason behind me not liking it is because it doesn't have the mystery, the foreunner style, cortana, and such (Campaign). For multiplayer it is; Bloom (It never needed to be added), Load out's (These are the things that ruined Reach), AA's in load out's (If they were pick ups it would have been better), AA's all together were badly chosen (Jetpack? Really?), No duel wielding (Biggest mistake), the absence of the carbine, beam rifle, mauler and the SMG.

Do you agree?

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

I could go on about how bad Reach is, but it's not worth my time. So, I will say this. The campaign completely disregarded canon and put a terrible story in its place. The multiplayer was catered to the casuals. Overall, the game reeks of failure.
