Subject: The New Hawtnes - improvements to B.Net

Morning / Afternoon / Evening B.Net!

I'm a member of many forums over the internet, many with different approaches to discussion forums - some which work better than B.net, and some that don't.

In this thread, I wanted to discuss possible future improvements that people would like to see. I'm guessing that the guys over at Bungie will be updating the site in line with the release of their next IP, so though we could start suggesting things that may be added.

Personally, I would like to see improvments made to the way you write posts. With a lot of other sights, you are able to multi-quote posts to discuss many points at once. However, we all know the pain of multi-quoting on here, opening new browsers, copy-pasta and such.

Also, I would like an easier interface for italics and underscoring. On other sites, you are able to highlight words and Cntrl+U / Cntrl+I the words to alter them (much like a Word document), but on here, you have to manually enter the script. It's not a major issue, but not to change it makes no sense.

Anyways...enough about me. What would you guys like to see?

Copy first quote, hit the back button, quote next post, hit paste, and you've got yourself two brand new quotes.

Enjoy your night!

Nah but seriously, I like Bungie as-is. I wouldn't mind a reply notification system though.

It's still not as easy as a multi-quote button though...

True that.

Definitely not a bad suggestion.

I would REALLLLLLY love to see a notification system added, especially with the new bnet mobile app =D... pm's are already so amazing now.

As for Italics and other text formatting, it'd be nice to just see buttons added to the top, or in a small drop down somewhere.

As much as I love the simplicity of posting here, I'd definitely like to have additional features like muli-quote and spell check. The only slight problem with having things like these, as we do in group news articles, is that it slows things right down and is more prone to formatting issues and such.

I don't quite understand how other sites, for example the EPIC forums, can have muti-coloured text, all sorts of crazy styles and formtting, but not experience any of this though?

People with GIF files or JPEG signatures, etc doesn't effect the running at all over there, but you have raised this as an issue. I'm know ne guru, but I don't see how this could be.

I think it probably just depends on the system a site is using. I certainly know it can be done as with the example you gave; I was really simply thinking about my personal experience of the news articles as they are here and perhaps experience varies per person anyway.

The point about greater text formatting sort of gets into another debate which has already been had before. In the past, we could type in colour here but it was abused in some cases and really, do we need it? (I'm also pretty sure Achronos has said no to its return). The big question for me is, how much formatting and functionality does one really need to get one's message across in the most clear and accurate way as possible? My opinion is, not much at all; certainly not as much as some other forums allow.

It's a metaphor for the 07s' lack of identity. too old to be newfag, yet too new to be oldfag, we wander b.net in search of a home, forever trying to be something we are not.

Spell check is built into most browsers so it's not really a priority in my mind.

The first thing I would want would be a notification system for when people quote you or replies to threads, that would of course be toggleable.

That and fix the saved threads bug, just throwing it out there.

Why are you reading my signature? Who actually opens these things and reads them!

And as always, SEND ME A PM. Please. Or really bad things will happen to you.

As everyone else is saying a notification system for being quoted would be heavenly. It's hard to contribute to multiple conversations with constantly stalking them.

Open a new browser just to multiquote?

Surely you know of tabbed browsering.

*sigh*

See above for a response to multi-quoting. Why would you keep it more difficult than you have to?

This. I would like to see some sort of icon next to a thread to let you know if someone has quoted you directly / indirectly.

Do you have a link to this? Has he mentioned if it was purely a makeover, or on the technical side / posting?

I want multi-quote! I am tired of moving my hand to the mouse, in order to open a new tab. It wastes energy!
