Subject: The future of Reach... Did they even plan on it having one?

I would say I am one of the most successful trolls in Bungie.net history.

What's the average player population for Reach these days? I figured I would try the new maps I got with CE:A and was honestly surprised at how low the population was. The game has been out just over a year and it seems as though the core fanbase has left. I guess that's what you get for building a game centered around the drooling masses. That's some sweet justice if you ask me.

At this point I wish I could post links to a few threads where I was the only person saying this would happen. They should have made Optimatch and the Beta forum read only and kept them.

I told you so!

Oh and just in case I forgot. Remember when I said Arena needs to be win/loss and not some dumb formula? I was right yet again.

Anyways, where do you think Bungie went wrong? I think they abandoned their core fanbase, gamers. I feel as though they made the game for non gamers, just look at all the dumb gimmicks they added. They did not focus on the gameplay, they figured all people would need are helmets and a system that doesn't allow losing. Just look at how long it took the drooling masses to abandon Reach.

What are your thoughts about Reach? Did any of you think it would end up like this?

Hey, uh, if you like vs threads, then check out this little group right here, if you have the time. It's pretty fun, just hop right in.

I think it was mainly there to keep us occupied until Halo 4. Same with Anniversary.

Reach is full of good concepts, but they were executed poorly either because Bungie rushed or built them for the wrong crowd of gamers. Reach is too mainstream and it essentially did away with what made Halo so special.

I've already said my opinion on this thousands of times since the Beta feedback forum, so I'll just leave it at that.

What good concepts? The netcode is the only thing that they actually got right. Reach gameplay is all together different from Halo.

And even that's pushing it.

They did something different from the previous Halo games and people didn't like it simple as that. I'm sure they had good intentions and thought that this was a good approach and weren't out to ruin your Halo experience. Well overall Reach is OK but more people hate more than love it so I hope that they learn this and don't make the same mistakes with part 4.

Being forced to actually win a game to rank up. Thats the number one problem with Reach. Players aren't forced to win - so therefore it's naturally less competitive.

Playlists like Living Dead, Grifball, MLG, and Action Sack. Their stats are totaled in with your "competitive" playlists. There should be a different section for those playlists, especially MLG. Invasion has it's own stats section, why can't MLG?

Ever since Arena went to a win/loss system, why not add objective? Why not just delete the whole rating system? Better yet why not force players to play Arena to rank up Globally? Players don't play Arena because they aren't forced too like Halo 3 ranked playlists. If players wanted to get those higher ranks in Halo 3, you HAD to play ranked. Not in Reach.

Just a few thoughts on the subject.

If anyone's to blame about reach's failure, it's us, the community! to make reach good they made the beta, we all said that we loved A.A, and now we hate them, (I still like them) but people say ,"bungie don't listen to the community!" but we, the community had the chance to change reach, we did and hated it, but there was no going back.

overall Reach's failure= community

We didn't -blam!- at the plasma repeater being the first actual useful Covenant weapon in a long time, but it got a nerf to the point of being useless.

It was generally agreed that the Plasma Launcher's tracking was just a tad OP. It got the hammer dropped on it.

We complained that vehicles were like paper mach'e. They got upgraded to cardboard status.

We complained that bloom was too punishing. Bloom got changed around so that it was random. Our fault there, but still.

AL was overpowered. They gave it a slap on the wrist and now it's an annoying pause button.

Grenades were nukes. They got down-graded to mini-nukes.

The pistol worked fine. It got a nerf for no reason.

People complained about the new melee system. Nothing changed.

And last but not least, there was supposed to be weapon variety. Most covenant stuff got a nerf to make them "unique" compared to their UNSC counterparts, but all this really did was make them useless. The DerpMR got some buffs while some other UNSC stuff got nerfed, so now all you ever hear in MM is the steady tick tick tick tick tick tick of DMR spam on every map.

Reach's Failure= One half community, one half Bungie

This. They made the game to cater to everybody, but when that happens, hardcore fans won't like the small skill gap. And what happened to Bungie making good maps?

(-_-) Bored Face

"core fanbase" was ultimately selfish and hyper omni-important

They value their own criticism way to much and don't see when it's not constructive. Actually it may even be the opposite. They're too high on power tripping over the "dogma" of people who automatically judge them as trolls, flamers, and irrationally passionate. The point is they will not improve. No one was "oppressing" them. People did try to be reasonible with them and try to adapt to their needs when talking on this forum, but again they would not refine their destructive and hard nature. They refused to acknowledge the rest of the community. Instead of just convincing us to their view point because honestly all of them have enviable and irritating strength of will, intelligence, skill of wording, and just plain power to do so. However all they want to do is be precious and flame who ever disagrees with them. This game failed because of the community's inability to allow Bungie room to grow with their game, and the clear guidance and understanding between fans to show them how. I personally know I have improved. I do try to pay as much attention to detail and be as omniscient as the "core fanbase". However I do try and fail. I honestly have no problem with talking about trying to get the Halo 3 exp. and leveling system system back, or about removing certain things from the game for the greater good if I wanted them before. As long as they understand it's a discussion and they are not entitled to win.

Reach has no Halo qualities about it. No Master Chief, no Flood, no Halo Rings, no Cortana, and really no major plot twists. Everyone knew Noble team was gonna die and to be honest it was hard to care for them because they were just generic soldiers. While the campaign was different, you just knew where it was heading and none of the levels are as action packed as the previous titles. However being that this was before Halo CE all this should have been expected.

As far as multiplayer goes, I can deal with AA's because honestly they are no different from the powerups from Halo 3 imo. I can also deal with things like bloom and overpowered weapons. However, the maps suck. Its either forge maps which are all the same -blam!- or maps taken directly from the campaign which Halo has never done before. That to me is what makes Reach less enjoyable. Is Reach a great game? Yes. Is it a great Halo game? no. Unfortunitely Reach has dug Halo far underground with its fans and while alot of it may just be rediculous hate, its gonna take a strong showing from Halo 4 to get Halo back to where it should be. I just hope the community can get a little bit more understanding by then.

Bungie tried to make Reach appeal to a wider audience than previous Halo games. I don't know why they did this
but they did. Maybe they were actually trying make Reach last longer; wider audience=longer lifespan. Nope.

No point to it, when you think about it.

Or to be forced to play -blam!- maps or gametypes i/we dident vote for. Thats basicly where Rech failed forcing players to play stuff they dident vote for.
Future Halo games need player matches for the social part and not this matchmaking crap.
