It has been hinted in the Maw terminal in CEA, that the Didact would be extremely angry if he were there to see what the Reclaimers did to the Halo, possibly to the point of wanting to annihilate humans. From the Halo 3 terminals, his fate is quite unclear, but I would like to put forward an idea.

There is the possibility that the Didact is dead, but his memory and mind have been saved and stored by himself before his death, in a place protected from the influence or danger of anyone else. Perhaps what we will deal with in Halo 4, is the wrath of a metastable Didact AI with full knowledge of its past physical life. The Timeless One may be only one of our worries.

That'd really suck because no force in the Halo Universe is ready to fight both a mad Didact AI and the Timeless One.

It'd make for one pretty awesome game though.

Not really. To think Chief could handle one Promethean Forerunner warrior is laughable.

Series... We have three games to fight him.

OT: "You're going to go up against The Didact in Halo 4" is the exact vibe that I as well as many other people got after viewing all of the terminals and I agree that it could make a really interesting story.

Fighting the Forerunners throws the whole "Humans are the reclaimers of what the Forerunners left behind" concept that has been part of Halo since the beginning null and void though.

But what happens if the Forerunners (and by this I mean a single, powerful Forerunner) view Humanities actions as wrong and make it their task to "correct" this "error"?

I agree that it is a little out there and I am by no means saying that I believe The Didact will be the main enemy in Halo 4. I simply stated that it would be an interesting way to take the franchise-as would any twist that could be added.

If making a twist more interesting means tossing out one of the key parts of Halo lore, I'm out.

Except Didact seemed pretty regretful towards his war with humanity after he found out the reason behind our percieved "aggression." Plus, attacking us would go behind Librarian's back. And he's not really Evil. Ancient, yes, but not Evil. And he's no threat to the entire universe.

But I agree he's in Halo 4, just not as a villain. A foil maybe, might disagree a lot with us, but he's smart. He understands the Timeless One is the bigger threat here (who fits the criteria for Halo 4's villain quite well).

Foil. That was the word I was looking for! I didn't mean to imply that he was the "villain" but an antagonizing force-maybe even temporarily-that would disagree with us but still have a point. Sorry for any confusion I caused.

Going with this, he might initially consider the Chief an enemy at first, but might ally with him later, like Arbiter, after he realizes that the Chief might be a useful asset in the fight against the TO.
