13.72 billion years in the making.

On December 1st, 2012, I met Neil deGrasse Tyson. I shook the man's hand, and even made him laugh. Not much else to do with my life now.

You'll need to be initiated before you work for Bungie.

Prepare to be shafted.

Also, does Bungie have internships?
Yes, Achronos confirm this to me through private message, but they are only accept university students, or students who is about to graduate as in the field of computer degree.

Alright. I'm only 15 so obviously I won't get one. Hell, even if they just let me do janitor work at their place I'd be happy :) Long time Bungie fan here. Anyway, what classes should I take and what college should I go too?

Computer sciences, or graphics arts I would think.

Now I don't mean to discourage you; but you don't just start out at Bungie. Well most people don't, you have to get experience in the field. Like build commercials for local companies people have never heard of ( Stuff like that). In short demonstrating you know what's up. Taking an internship there however is a good way to get some experience.

This.

If you plan on doing design at Bungie, you are definitely going to need experience designing games. Most designers get started off doing campaign mods of some games out there. Then work there way into a professional development company. After that, get a couple years of designing under your belt and apply to Bungie, and see what happens. I would probably have a plan B. Design is heavily critiqued.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

Get a BS in Computer Science. You have 8 years before you'll have any true experience.

At Bungie? There's no way that would work.

Why not? You could have articles posted in private groups on games you reviewed or how you thought the design could've been better to allow for better gameplay.

IGN allows you to host a blog for free, I even have one. I haven't posted anything yet because I've been busy lately.

I really thought the sarcasm was quite evident.

Before DeeJ got hired, he wrote a blog about online gaming called the Tied The Leader. I was being sarcastic. Am I the only one that read his interview?

Really? Never heard about him writing that.
I remember a Humpday challenge against that community a while back, but that's about it.

Yes, you are the only person on this forum who reads.

Post from someone who was in the same situation you are in just a few years ago... If you don't have the skills to get into a big studio, don't bother pursuing it as a career.... Yet.

I studied 3D animation in the hope of getting a job as an animator at a games studio. Meanwhile, all the games studios in Australia were crashing and burning.

I'm now working as a graphic artist and getting paid much more and working under much better conditions than I would have been had I been working for a game studio. On top of that, I have a job while many animators have now found themselves unemployed.

I still find time to work on 3D stuff on the side and who knows, maybe one day I will have a great portfolio and land that awesome game job, but in the mean time I'll do what I can to get by.

tl;dr: Don't drop everything to get into making games.

Also, look into teaching yourself. Colleges are ridiculously expensive and don't necessarily teach you things you could learn using resources like the internet and textbooks.
Polycount is a great site if you want to get into 3D. Go through the Pimping and Preview forums there. Great inspiration and advice.

Do Computer Science for sure. Even if you don't end up doing Videogames, Washington State is desperate for programmers, making it rather easy to find a job close to home in this troubled economy.

Whoo.

Are you sure you know what those things entail?

With how general your definition is of what you want to do I'm not entirely sure you know if you'd want to work in the game's industry, level design, vehicle design or weapons and balancing gameplay are several very different things that all have different challenges and obstacles to leap over.

My suggestion? (Well besides the other stuff already in the thread.)
Try making some games in UDK and/or Unity that entail the kind of work you invision yourself doing, they're pretty easy to use development kits with rather simple programming systems so it shouldn't be that hard for you to get started, try making a fun balanced game, release it for free and see how it goes.

If you had fun making it, then maybe you really want to do this, but if it get's released and everyone says "The level/vehicle/weapon design/balance is dreadful!" then you know you was doing something wrong.

Oh you can also join GameMakers, it's a group for people like yourself that wish to make games, we're not overly active at the moment but last time I checked we had a nice archive of links related to game making that were rather useful, plus if you need anything or if you're making something interesting it's not uncommon for the group to randomly just spring into action, I think the problem with activity really is that no one is doing anything so there's nothing to talk about.

Another group you might want to check out is BungieKart, it's a community racing game we're currently developing in UDK, we're just starting to iron out the details so you can help design the weapons/vehicles/maps/whatever, anyone can join and help out so there wouldn't be any issues.

And my last fancy link is to World of Level Design, it's a nice little site with some great tutorials on map design, using different development kits to create maps and generally those sorts of things.

And the Shadow fell upon the Land, and the World was riven stone from stone. The oceans fled, and the mountains were swallowed up, and the nations were scattered to the eight corners of the World. The moon was blood, and the sun was as ashes. The seas boiled, and the living envied the dead. All was shattered, and all but memory lost, and one memory above all others, of him who brought the Shadow and the Breaking of the World. And him they named Dragon.

Only job within the gaming industry which seems cool is something related to Community Management. Working as a writer seems pretty cool too.
