Subject: Halo 2 (PC) and Switchable Graphics...

Hi there, apologies that this has been mentioned before.

I know a lot of people have had problems with this, and I refuse to accept that there is not a way round it.

I have finally got round to buying an Alienware machine, which I have wanted for ages (I know a lot of you won't rate them, but I think it's a beautiful machine). I went for the m11xR3 and I have been wanting to play my copy of Halo 2 (PC) at a decent graphics level for a while, upon trying to install I have the problem that many have with Switchable Graphics/Optimus Technology, the game sees the Intel HD graphics and assumes the computer is not adequate to run this game and therefore does not complete the installation.

Even if you set the laptop to use only NVidia GPU it still doesn't work.

I think in the older BIOS for these laptops you could access the BIOS and disable the Intel GPU, but in this one it uses BIOS A04 and I can't even figure out how to access the BIOS. I'm waiting to here back from Dell so hopefully they will shine some light on the subject, but i'm not very optimistic...

If anyone has any ideas, or has experienced the same issue, please get back to me. Any useful suggestions, or BIOS hacking websites/forums that you know would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot,

squatman

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

That laptop's GPU is a 540M, which is known to not work with H2V at all. H2V will never run on your laptop. Not your laptop's fault, H2V is just garbage software.

Most people don't really care to try. I'm not saying there isn't a work around somewhere out there, it's just that it's highly unlikely. :/

Nobody knowledgeable enough to do something like that has enough interest in such a bad game.

Nope, another benefit of the PC version. As DusK said, everyone else has come here and asked, the answers and fixes always turn up utterly useless, the 540m is from what I hear, not a bad card, just not able to play H2V, ever.

The bungie.net community is the halo PC community that is renowned for being unbelieveably sucky.

NVidia could fix this easily if they wanted to in a driver update.

Technically though, nVidia takes no responsibility to end users who purchase their hardware through OEMs like Alienware.

We're sorry we couldn't help you further, it's just one game at the end of the day and most here will tell you H2V isn't worth the time, you still got plenty of other games to play which that GPU should be capable of running so enjoy your purchase :)
