/Similar to the images thread, but still a different discussion.

By chance, I also saw the Battlefield 3 forums, and how their community manager Zh1nto hardly posted.

Then I headed off to other forums, to see the exact same thing.

The community guy was not posting, most of the communication was done on Twitter.

Why Bungie? It is really disappointing that despite the complexity and time invested into this forum that you guys, especially the community managers, hardly post when it comes to your next aspirations, e.g. new IP.

I am specifically talking about the game forums, although a post in the Flood wouldn't hurt now, would it?

I know this forum contains the most moderators and employees, but posts are far and few in between, especially when it comes to feedback.

/Thread Main Question

Why do you guys not post a simple reply acknowledging the existence of a thread?

Do you guys do other things regarding the community? (Specifically the community managers, Urk and Deej)

I don't want to sound too nitpicky or whiny, but do the community managers have other jobs in Bungie?

  • 11.21.2011 12:22 AM PDT

I thought the sole purpose of Twitter was to keep people who follow you updated, hence their job being to keep us (the public) updated on the going-ons at Bungie.

But just because they don't post doesn't mean they aren't looking. And even if they aren't, that doesn't mean they don't care. The website isn't just for them to come on and chat to their fans (For the same reason Urk won't return my phone calls), it would take far too much time to do so. This website is for the entire Bungie community to do the things that we do best.

  • 11.21.2011 12:33 AM PDT

I understand that posting on Twitter is likely to reach more people than on this forum. Although, we are here on Bungie's official forums, yet people on Twitter, Facebook and sites like NeoGAF are likely to see news before we do, it is quite confusing.

And what would they have to tell us at the moment? They're dark. There's no point in talking about the game when it is in such a chaotic pre-alpha stage where features are created as quickly as they are slashed.

Basically, I make the best topics ever.

Feedback!
Duardo: This thread is locked for being stupid.
cortana 5 : It's perpetually my time of the month and I'm just grouchy.
Foman: I see absolutely no reason, either theoretical or practical, that this is not a superb idea. Excellent work, my friend.

Meh, a lot of people subscribe to Twitter. Not me granted, but it's great for those people that care about every little detail. The site is more for the bigger stuff.

  • 11.21.2011 1:56 AM PDT

Well...

Social networking sites tend to have a larger audience at any one time. There will probably be more people subscribed to receive daily updates than there will be people who visit the forums.

Also, if a Community Manager is out and about doing promos, etc., it will be easier updating Twitter than logging on to the forums.

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

It is easier to make updates 140 characters at a time. Writing one update for a whole week is hard.

And the Shadow fell upon the Land, and the World was riven stone from stone. The oceans fled, and the mountains were swallowed up, and the nations were scattered to the eight corners of the World. The moon was blood, and the sun was as ashes. The seas boiled, and the living envied the dead. All was shattered, and all but memory lost, and one memory above all others, of him who brought the Shadow and the Breaking of the World. And him they named Dragon.

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

Bungie literally just hired a guy to handle this. I know he's been posting in here mostly, but he just said yesterday that he'll be participating in more discussions.

He's been here for about a week. Don't you think we should probably wait to see how it goes from here before worrying?

Not sure what the DICE community manager has to do with us, but I post here pretty frequently. I lurk many of the other forums, too, but I try not to post unless I have something valuable to contribute as it tends to derail the topic really quickly.

There are eight topics on the first page of this forum with employee participation, btw. Not bad for being dark. :)

Edit: You have to scroll through six pages of threads in the community forum to find a page that doesn't have at least one topic that a employee weighed in on.

See, we totally love you.

@OP
ask yourself this; How many other game developer websites have an 'off topic' forum that moderators post in [at least twice, maybe 3 times a week]

urk did a good job of fielding this question, so I will just add that World Domination requires that we recruit new people who not yet members of the Bungie.net Community. I am doing my part. We are venturing off-world to find new friends who will hunker down here with you and lament that fact that they are beaten (love you, Skibur).

At the same time, only six days after hitting the ground running as your new master of ceremonies, I am hatching plans for how to keep you engaged and entertained here on Bungie.net.

It's a balance. Stay tuned.

I'd assume they do other things within the company.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

ARRGGG. One day, when I actually meet you at some community thing, we need to play a game of chess.

Urk

Thanks for replying. I always felt that this forum is one of the few places you guys actually come. I hope Deej posts more than what he does, but you still haven't answered my question. What do you guys do besides the community stuff at Bungie?

I'd love to hear some feedback.

Deej

I see. I look forward to those plans. What is your favorite sport?

Oh, and since you are on a POSTING SPREE, what does Achronos (Tom) do besides ruling this website?

“Strange,” mused the Director, as they turned away, “strange to think that even in Our Ford’s day most games were played without more apparatus than a ball or two and a few sticks and perhaps a bit of netting. imagine the folly of allowing people to play elaborate games which do nothing whatever to increase consumption.”
