We should know better, because we are better.

Dates is my vote. Terminals that occur in the present day are listed as 100002, which is similar to the number of years after the Halo activation. Terminals 4-6 take place around when the ship hits 04 which is roughly 60000 years ago, so 044657. More research is needed to confirm this.

I'm blue da ba di da ba dai!

They're date, they are counted since the activation of the Halos.

What? How simple does it have to be for you to be convinced.

Speaking of the crashed ship...

What the -blam!- was that? A Forerunner ship?

And early Covenant ship?

It's nothing, that scene exists to point out that protocol didn't allow 343 GS to initiate contact with the outside world.

The ships themselves aren't that important.

Terminal 9 has the same numbers preceding it as terminals 4-6. Terminal 9 occurs a few hours before Terminal 10. If they had the same few numbers then I would definitely say they are dates. But as it is, it means there is a connection between terminal 9 and terminal terminal 4 because they have the same numbers. In addition Terminal 1 has the same numbers as terminal 4 and 9. There should be a connection somehow.

You can't possibly know that. Until we know about Halo 4 then we do noe (read: more then nothing) we have to assume everything in the Terminals connects to Halo 4 in some way.

I seriously doubt it was 'nothing'.

No, the sensible thing to do would be the opposite.

The only terminal that gives that impression is the 10th one.

Maybe not nothing, but the 8 first terminal all seem to tell the story of poor old and lonely GS, they don't seem to lead off to anything else.

They give us valuable glimpses of the Forerunners, and the protocols that dictated the firing of the Halo array.

Who knows how these might lead too?

343i isn't telling us anything. All we have is what we can learn.

Well if you logically look at the plot of the terminals as it relates to the game they are in (Halo Combat Evolved) the crashed ship stuff ends with Guilty Spark regretting not making contact with whoever was inside and his statement that next time would be different. As far as we know and are led to believe, the "next time" is the start of this game. This explains why Guilty Spark didn't just use the Halo's defenses to just wipe out the Humans and Covenant in the area before they reached the ring and took the chance of breaking containment. Looking at the plot of the terminals this seems the most logical reason for this ship to be there and is probably why it was so generic and nondescript. Perhaps there may be more to it down the road, but there doesn't seem much reason to think that from what we have now as it already serves a very clear purpose for the story.

Read this thread!

It has information about the terminals.

They also cracked the Forerunner code at the end of each terminal video!

But we still don't know what the numbers mean. They don't see be related to anything, but I don't they're arbitrary.
