Based on context and the fact that Halo is heavily influenced by The Vang: Starhammer by Christopher Rowley, we must assume that the stars are going out because of Didact. He and his company of Prometheans must have a technology similar to the Starhammer which causes suns/stars to Supernovae.

It is extremely possible that Didcat will be appearing in the next Halo Trilogy and he may be attacking by causing stars to Supernovae. This is all speculation of course but time will tell.

Edit: Punctuational Error.

Forerunner ships can cause stars to supernovae. Saying their infantry can blow up stars is wank. (Though planetary scale destruction by Forerunner SECURITY forces-not even mainline warrior servants-is not.)

Why would the Didact be destroying stars, though? I agree it likely has something to do with him, but why? As I've said countless times, he has no reason to be a villain, unless he's doing it for ultimately benevolent purposes. Trying to root out the Ancient Evil perhaps.

If he is doing it for benevolent reasons then what could be so horrible about the Ancient Evil that requires them to destroy so many stars?

Well, this evil is capable of threatening the entire universe according to 343i so suffice it to say, a few stars aren't that big of a loss.

My honor student can beat up your honor student.

The large flash at the very end is, most likely, the POA's explosion. The intense light from the explosion would easily make it much harder to see the stars. Think of it like light-pollution. It's really hard to see stars in cities where there is tons of light, but easy away from cities were there is little artificial light.

As for your Didact-being-the-bad-guy theory, I agree. But other than that, no, I don't think it is very likely that the Didact will be blowing up stars. The only known time they blew up a star was when they were experimenting with slipspace tech and they destroyed their homeworld.

I don't think they'd ever want to repeat that.

They destroyed stars while fighting the Flood all the time. It was one of their defense mechanisms; if they took over a system, they'd fire their weapons at the local star, detonate it, and wipe out the solar system.

And your "PoA explosion" theory makes no sense either. The stars start going out long before we see even a hint of the explosion.

Though we know next to nothing about it, I think that may have been hyperbole on 343i's part. If the Ancient Evil is capable of destroying/threatening the universe having someone like Master Chief, talented he is, take him down would seem a bit odd in my opinion.

Just waiting for someone to make that reference.

Why try, when you can win? Anything is possible.

@Terren_117-I would have to agree with his proposition. It seems to be the most logical answer. And well said, Terren_117, I might add.

i think it is the prisoner. he is obviously going to be the bad guy in halo 4-6 and didact is dead so he is not going to happen.

Your evidence?

there is that one terminal from halo.bruce.wiki with didact speaking. when the timer gets to 0 and the halos fire he stops speaking. He should be dead.

Thats because the Forerunners did. They had technology to destroy star systems by making the suns go supernova. This was before Halo was conceived.

Just because he stops talking does not mean he is dead. It is implied elsewhere, like in Halo Cryptum, that the Didact survived the war.

The way he is speaking in the introduction makes it seem like he is speaking to someone, whether or not this was a fourth-wall moment and he was addressing us or he was speaking to someone has yet to be seen. If only Primordium would be released.

Assuming the stars are actually going out, perhaps they aren't being destroyed. Sure, it's the obvious thing that comes to mind, but perhaps they're being moved away. Or being surrounded by material and occluded from view. Or non-explosively disassembled(though I guess that counts as destruction) and the material used for something.

Don't know who or why, just throwing stuff out.

It has many correlations with the plot of Halo and one person (Frankie O'Connor?) stated that Halo was influenced by the trilogy.

Jason Jones had mentioned the Vang books before in an interview. Back in 2001 I think.

Where do you think the stars are being moved to, if that is the case? I can see them being obscured by something like a quarantine fleet but it would require a large amount of ships; perhaps there is a large construct that has moved in-between 04 and the stars which is what is obscuring them from view.

I dont think they are moving the stars. one of the things that disappeared was a nebula and I dont think forerunners can move an entire nebula. stars yes, nebulas no. I think obscuring is one of the more likely things.

  • 11.27.2011 4:11 PM PDT

I think its symbolism or foreshadowing more than anything, but there are SO many cryptic mysteries in these terminals that you can speculate all day 'till you go bananas. It's most likely best to wait for more sufficient evidence to come up that can answer a LOT of the questions revolving around the terminals. Cause right now, it seems like every turn is a dead end with these.
