Subject: Halo vs COD

Halo vs COD is the most largely discussed despute in modern day gaming. My problem with this is why. Gamers always take topics to the extreme, Mac vs PC, Xbox vs Playstation. Both games are great in their own way. I want to hear from the Halo community why they prefer either game. Please nothing unfounded, if you have not played COD or MW then don't voice your unfounded opinion, it would just be fanboy trash talk like that which started this debate

Halo for people who like a more classic feel to FPS and play for fun.

CoD for more advanced players who like extreamly fast paced twitch shooter combat.

My Opinion.

There have been a ton of topics like this and they always end in the same flaming. Besides, comparing Halo to CoD is like comparing apples to oranges. The only thing they have in common is the fact that they're fruits.

However, for the sake of a miraculously mature discussion, I'll go ahead and say that I find Halo to be better. CoD I feel is lacking skill compared to Halo largely because kill times are so ridiculously quick. I honestly don't see any skill whatsoever in shooting an opponent twice in the back for the kill without hope of them retaliating. Add the freekillstreaks to that and I see it as a competitive wannabe game.

Plus the atmosphere can get so frustrating. I've never raged so hard in my life until playing Blops, but in Halo I'll just take a death in stride because I know I got outplayed.

So basically... Waypoint is pro-vanilla?

Waypoint isn't pro-anything so much as they're just anti-intelligence.

CoD for more advanced players

Not at all.

Maybe more than lolReach, but not good ol' Halo from back in the day.

Sry ill elaborate as to why i feel this way.

I say this because the environment in CoD is far more hostile then halo. Its much harder to survive in CoD then halo due to how easy it is to die and how chaotic the environment can be due to kill streaks, noob tubes, multiple styles of grenades, and every rapid fire gun nearly being as deadly as a DMR head shot. You also dont get vehicles to dominate the opposition with.

Halo you have so many ways to avoid death its silly. Shields that take several hits to die, AA's, (including the pick ups in halo 3), health packs, and power weapons that make you nearly unstopable in the right hands.

Now i will be fare in saying that halo does have 1 aspect that makes it slightly more challanging and that is that just cus you get the jump on somone doesnt mean you always win. But thats really it.

Again, my opinion.

You dont seem so eager to state your oppinion on this matter. You can drop the "you cant be this stupid" stance and actually state why you feel im incorrect.

Lets grow up a bit here friend.

COD is the epitome of a casual friendly, "your grandma can play it" type game. To even attempt to claim it's more "advanced" than Halo - or any other FPS for that matter - is naive and a cause for concern.

I play them all - COD, Halo, Gears, Battlefield, Quake, Counter Strike, Half LIfe - you name it. Of all those games the easiest, most simplistic, least "advanced" - has it's picture next to "simpleton" in the dictionary - game, is Call of Duty.

Especially this latest installment.

  • 11.21.2011 7:53 PM PDT

Now we're getting somewhere. Although not quite what i was looking for as you just stated the same thing over and over. Im asking why you feel this way though. What is it about CoD that makes you feel it is simplistic? Is it the play style? The controls? The game types?

Im looking for reasons as to your opinion not just "because it is".

Not trying to sway your opinion just give me aspects about the game that make you feel this way and ill be completely content and question you no more.

Helen Keller could play COD and do well.

  • 11.21.2011 8:02 PM PDT

Lol ok i guess if thats all you have then you are quite entitled to your opinion. But if you can't come up with a decent reason as to why you feel Halo is more advanaced then CoD then i can only conclude that you are just a fanboy and cant back up your claim.

Not that you care what i think, just dont expect people to care what you think if you can't actually give an intelligent response. This applies to online and in real life.

This. I'd also like to say that CoD isn't more "advanced" in that the "field is more hostile".

Halo has weapon control, CoD does not.
Halo has vehicles that add another dynamic to gameplay. CoD just uses weapons.
Halo has shields that prevent the "I saw you first, I won" gameplay in CoD as you can be outplayed even if you get the first shots in a Halo game.

Oh yeah, you can twitch in Halo too.

See now this is the kind of response i am looking for. I dont agree with all the aspects but i respect the opinion.

Hope you can learn from this.

I'd say CoD1-4 (excluding 3 as I've never played it) are on par with Halo. Anything after that? Well, the series got incredibly dumbed down.

They purposely (I think, because it's a step backwards from CoD4) butchered the spawn system (or maybe it's just the circular map design responsible) so that people end up spawning behind each other.

As a result, the only reliable way to play is to camp so you don't get shot in the back. Don't think I'm saying that out of anger against campers; I have no problem with campers, I have a problem with Sledgehammer for making it the dominant playstyle.

In MW3, I've gone on deathstreaks of around 6 (all getting shot in the back, with not even the slightest clue on the enemy team's general location) and I've gone on killstreaks of 10+. Hell, I even got a MOAB (25 kills) just corner camping.

CoD4 has none of these problems and I actually feel like it's a team game. Crossfire is my favorite CoD4 map, it lets teams fight head on and still allows flanking. It also really lets teams work together, clearing out the buildings on the side and continually moving up.

Well, this post didn't contribute a lot to the topic and is just a wall of text rant about newer CoD games, but here you go.

Okay bud...

In COD I can show my sister which button shoots, throw her into a game, and watch as she goes 5-10. She doesn't even have to move.

In Halo - and almost any other FPS - I can do the same thing and watch as she doesn't get a single kill.

There's a reason COD is such an overwhelming player in the game industry...and it's not because all those people who play it enjoy how "advanced" it is.

Hint: It's because it's so easy.

Name's John. I'm a 21-year-old firefighter/EMT from lolhio who doubles as a die-hard Halo fan. I've been enjoying the franchise since 2001. My favorite iteration of Halo would have to be Halo 2 simply because I never got to experience the joy of a full-on Halo: CE LAN.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Oh yeah, and boot Zome.

Halo: Map control, skill gap.

Cawadoody: lolz i juz dropshotted qwik skoped u n00b get on meh level

I like them both in all honesty, but seriously, Halo >>>>> COD.

I made the inevitable switch to CoD a few months after Reachs release. I went from being a good/very good Halo player to one of the worlds best in FFA on Black Ops(multiple weekly/monthly number 1s and top 50 all time). This alone shows the large gap in skill from Halo to CoD. I've played halo online since day 1 of halo 2 and not been the best, yet within two weeks I was dominating every game in CoD.

CoDs biggest downfall is that it can't really go anywhere as a series, a fictional world such as halo has endless possibilities, where as CoD is a series based on war and so can only interpret what's humanly possible.

Call of Duty offers a social playground for teens and children. It has the 'pick up and play' appeal and so anyone can pick up the game and not only enjoy it but can have relative success with little experience. Hardcore gamers may take a dim view of this but it's made it the most popular FPS in history.

I can't see Halo ever coming back and being 'top dog' again, it's too damn hard for the average player to rack up kills with ease and so immediately pushes the casual gamer away. This as well as it being a science fiction game has alienated console gamers biggest audience- teenagers.

It simply isn't 'cool' to like Halo anymore, this is obvious by Halos dwindling popularity. For me though it's still the all round best package to be offered on any FPS console game and as long as can find a game, I will always play Halo.

Reach is 100% perfect, and the single most competitive game since Candyland. Anyone who dares question the godly powers of Bungie is obviously just bad at Halo.

Halo: People who like skillful gameplay that rewards good aim and quick thinking.

CoD: People who like to sit back, relax, and enjoy the feeling of being a real-war bad ass.

You kiddin? My cat could go positive in CoD. Strategy in that game is really made or broken by sheer luck, and reaction time is replaced by the ridiculous amounts of auto-aim combined with the fact that you only need like two body shots to get a kill.

Halo 3: ReV Eskimo

eventually ill be back on Reach and CEA. i enjoy gaming for fun, im a great player and i enjoy smoking while i play. so any chill players feel free to add me. I in NO way support halocharts; old username.

eh, call of duty always keep the same theme, run, point shoot. the multiplayer is full of campers waiting for kills cause they are rewarded for not dying with kill spree bonuses. the customization is the ONLY great aspect of the game but every game feels the same.

halo....pffff. each game has its own feel, the storyline has DEPTH which COD lacks. i like the armor system. in COD, its really a matter of seeing them before they see you. in halo you can return fire and attempt to counter. the halo series is always something to look forward to. its WORTH a midnight wait but COD will always be the same thing, to me that loses playability. i didnt even get MW3, looks the same to me.
