Subject: Halo vs COD

Posted by: Sagi
There have been a ton of topics like this and they always end in the same flaming. Besides, comparing Halo to CoD is like comparing apples to oranges. The only thing they have in common is the fact that they're fruits.

However, for the sake of a miraculously mature discussion, I'll go ahead and say that I find Halo to be better. CoD I feel is lacking skill compared to Halo largely because kill times are so ridiculously quick. I honestly don't see any skill whatsoever in shooting an opponent twice in the back for the kill without hope of them retaliating. Add the freekillstreaks to that and I see it as a competitive wannabe game.

Plus the atmosphere can get so frustrating. I've never raged so hard in my life until playing Blops, but in Halo I'll just take a death in stride because I know I got outplayed.
I feel exactly the same way :P

This was my reply to a thread on a gfx forum I co-run...

"The time has come for me to list why I voted for Halo over CoD

Although i'm not a great MM player, & i'll freely admit that. I still prefer Halo over CoD.

As others have said, in many respects they are both very different games. Not only visually, but how they play & what they have to offer the player. For me, Halo 3's ranking system was a challenge. But it was a challenge that just kept me coming back & chasing that high rank. It rewarded you for doing well, as did Halo 2. While I can appreciate that the set up for ranking in CoD is a completely different concept, it never really held my attention. I knew that no matter how bad things got, I knew I was still going to lvl, but it would just take me a few extra games is all.

The campaigns, although completely different to each other again. Halo just has so much replay value for me. Not only in single player, but going though in co-op has always been a lot of fun. Halo has a rich story driven aspect that just isn't there in any of the CoD games, except for maybe WaW.
The Halo campaigns all tie to each other to build up one big story, which is another thing I find very appealing. Even though individually they may have their flaws, when you put them all together, they build up to one of the best saga's out there. Add the novels to the mix, & you'll see why.
Although i'm not very familiar with the back stories to the CoD campaigns... as far as I know, they offer nothing similar to this. But please correct me if i'm wrong.

Another big draw for me on the Halo games, was the addition of Forge... I can create & play on any map I have made, or my friends have made. From time to time, the good maps will be added to the MM hopper in MP as well. Some of the community created maps are very good, & in some cases, better than the shipped maps.

Firefight is one of my favourite game modes. It has a lot of appeal in its Reach form. But for a true "Balls to the Wall" experience, there will be nothing to touch the FF in ODST.

Again... these are two things that CoD just can't offer. However... I can appreciate (as others have already said) the ease of just being able to jump onto CoD for a bit, get my MM fix, then leave

My reasons might sound a little bias to some of you... but i've never hidden the fact that i'm a Halo fanboy lol"

Halo is winning that poll as well btw :D

Hey, uh, if you like vs threads, then check out this little group right here, if you have the time. It's pretty fun, just hop right in.

It's not a contest, they're just two different FPS games.

For me personally: Halo.

Halo has been my favorite game ever since CE.

I bought an xbox 360 and own just one game: Halo :p

It's a personal preference but it's always been Halo for me.

I like the game play and feel of Halo (for the console).

For PC my favorite was Counter-Strike.

I started multiplayer gaming with Halo 3. I've always loved the balance and skill gap in Halo, and how if I die it's usually my fault. While that's totally changed with Reach, I'm always gonna be a Halo fan.

CoD definitely has its fun moments though. It's great to hop on and screw around with a few good friends. That's especially true with MW3. You cannot take that game seriously.

  • 11.22.2011 5:20 AM PDT

Ok maybe that was a stretch but Halo is my top game :p

You get the point...

Furthermore, I think it's funny as hell how everybody says CoD is so easy it's a joke, yet barely anybody I see can keep a 2 K/D on Black Ops or MW3. I seriously didn't think it was possible to not pull at least a 2 K/D unless you don't have thumbs.

I think he meant the franchise...

but anyway Halo vs COD... this tireless debate has just kinda floated around the internet with flame wars and trash talking but here is the truth.

both games are unrealistic because people die when they are killed... there. end of story.

CoD = mindless gameplay
halo = braincells needed

that's what it all boils down to in the end.

though, you do have to laugh at how ignorant and stuck up the CoD community is, they are only playing it because their friends think it's fun because their friends think it's fun and so on.

We had lobbies of people talking about this last night. Top reasons why Halo is "NORMALLY" played over COD. These all apply to prior Halo games, NOT REACH.

Limited amount of camping in Halo, no laying Prone!
Faster Gameplay, always seem to be in the action
No perks for kill streaks so it doesn't promoted slower/smarter gameplay. Halo is more based around raw talent than luck or where spray bullets land.

All this goes out the window with Reach.

Reach is a camp fest, motion tracker is to smart
Kill times are even slower
Maps aren't designed for fast gameplay

Halo for people who like a more classic feel to FPS and play for fun.

CoD for more advanced players who like extreamly fast paced twitch shooter combat.

My Opinion.

Madam.

And I uncorrected your correction. I know I spelled it wrong. Don't correct me.

And yes, sweetie, people do die when they are killed, but I would have stated it as "people do die when they are shot or knifed".
