Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

Bungie already uses Javascript... which works a lot better than what you've suggested.

And the only HTML codes that should be accepted are:
<ol> and <li>

Yep. I've been here since early 2009 and I've seen many people like this. A lot more now than there used to be.

So I should be able to put JavaScript into my posts?

And the <ol> and <li> tags are needed.

Well... no, I meant they use JavaScript for moderation and whatnot.

Ignoring how many things in this thread which are just wrong... I propose something slightly different.

<op>This guy is the best.</op>I assume that what you want is for this - and the other markup - to do something special on the server-side, right? If so, how about instead of a tag, there can be a "reference character". For example, if I were to type in "@OP" in the post creation textbox, Bungie.net can take that and transform it into a hyperlink to the OP of the current thread's profile, along with their username.

I'm sure there could be a ton of things done where you could use special characters (or tags) that can automatically refer to specific elements with a certain context, and that's very interesting and useful IMO.

I see. With your idea Bungie.net would work a little like Twitter.

Basically, I make the best topics ever.

Feedback!
Duardo: This thread is locked for being stupid.
cortana 5 : It's perpetually my time of the month and I'm just grouchy.
Foman: I see absolutely no reason, either theoretical or practical, that this is not a superb idea. Excellent work, my friend.

Been there, done that.

Bungie.net should have new HTML tags for use in the forums.

For example:
<sarcasm>Foman is the best!</sarcasm>
<troll>Peanuts are a vegetable!</troll>
<happy>Yaaaaaay! :)</happy>
<sad>Mooohoohoohooooo!</sad>
<mad>Rawr!</mad>
<op>This guy is the best.</op>
<ot>Yes, there should be new HTML tags.</ot>
<style color="gold">This is gold.</style>
<sexy>(Insert something sexy)</sexy>
<silly>I iz happeez and I liek tacoz!</silly>
<ban="3">Foman</ban>
<perma>Foman</perma>
<warn>Foman</warn>

What do you think? I report, you decide.

Easy Peasy, all Bungie needs to do is append RFC-1866 and Bungie.net will have new HTML tags for the forums!

Not really. What I'm saying is, if this feature were implemented right now and I wrote the following text:Hello @OP
The resulting post you would see would be:Hello Big fat slob 50

Nice idea, but a nasty one to implement. What would the user need to do if they innfact wanted to say "@OP", instead of creating a link?

  • 11.22.2011 12:08 AM PDT

You could break it with non-visible characters, it could be case-sensitive, etc... Kind of like BBCode as it already is.

I guess that would be nice daza, but then you have to make sure you remember the OP's username when you're reading a topic for references. I understand the potential for this type of feature, I just think there are other ways to implement it that would better suit the flow of conversation.

On a side note, I still think we need the ability to upvote good replies. Too many times a bad post gets a bunch of attention because people don't have the common sense to understand that it's a joke.

I think there should be a <spoiler> </spoiler> tags that will create a button that will hide what is between those tags, so you can leave an optional reference, when talking about long reply chains.

Arent these tags called BBCode? Or is he referring to something a little more advanced well outside my understanding?

You could make it so that you can put a character before the code that doesn't show up in the post. For example, in Excel, if you put an apostrophe at the beginning of a cell, the rest just shows up as regular text like you typed in but the apostrophe doesn't show up unless you're editing the cell.

And all this talk about <ol> and <li>, what ever happened to good old <ul>?

No, this is HTML. BBCode is simpler. Don't worry about it, because:

1. OP is halfway through the W3Schools tutorial and thinks he's a smartass.
2. You can't say "your HTML is terrible". That doesn't make sense.
3. Nowhere, anywhere at all, has the OP mentioned anything related to CSS. I hardly doubt he knows what it stands for without the use of Google, and I think he just threw that in the title to sound smart.
4. No. There is BBCode to change the style/color of text, and it was on Bnet at one point. It was removed.

TL;DR: OP is trying to look cool. There is BBCode for almost all of this, or it can be done manually.

@OP: Your ignorance has managed to both amuse and frustrate me at the same time.

EDIT: Rereading the original post, I have reached the conclusion that the OP is actually stupid beyond my original analysis. "<sarcasm>" and things like that are not HTML tags. Those would be XML tags, and we can't use those.

OP is a total dumbass.
