ok I've been meaning to ask this question for a while but haven't got round to posting it, so here it is

why can't more that one A.I be present in the same room, it was mentioned in the fall of reach when the Spartans were getting the armor, it said something along the lines of when they entered the room they saw 5 A.I holograms immediately disappear. also if they can't be in the same room then how can mack and loci from contact havest talk to each other???

thanks for any replies

Where does that indicate multiple AI's cannot be in the same room?

IIRC, they were preparing the facility for evacuation, so those AI's 'disappeared' to get ready to move.

Besides, if when they walk in a group of holograms disappear, that'd mean multiple AI's were in the room before.

They can be in the same room. Three were in the same room on the UNSC Point of No Return.

I am...whimsical today.

Was it not that it was rare to see so many AI in one room?
They're precious commodities. Also, there are few tasks that a single AI would not be able to accomplish on their own.

Probably this. Even a "dumb" AI assigned to the project could handle it all.

Still, Cortana and Wellsey seemed perfectly find being pretty close to each other didn't they?

I think i remember this from one of the books actually, was it not something to do with the holographic projection?

i have found the quote in the fall or reach (first edition) pg 114 "three technicians and at least a dozen AI figures were busy in the center of the room. john had seen AIs' before- one at a time. deja had once told the Spartans that there was a technical reasons why AIs' couldn't be in the same place at the same time"

so i was right unless it has be retconed in the newer editions?

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

I don't see an issue with AIs being in groups the forerunners didn't seem to have that issue.

  • 11.22.2011 2:32 PM PDT

yeah i don't see why there is a issue but eric nylund made the issue and i was wondering if a reason had been given why or if it had been retconed

Or perhaps it was something to do with the fact that if they can communicate they may think themselves superior and turn against the humans, which might tie in with why Cortana's conversation with another AI (i can't remember which or where) had to be authorized and only lasted something like a few milliseconds.

Or, more likely, most facilities simply didn't have the means to house/have several AI's operating all at the same time for the most part.

This.

Most AIs have a connection with Humanity, and wouldn't even WANT to hurt it.

Not to mention all the blocks in place.
