First of all OP, its called punctuation, use it.
Second of all, the UNSC has weapon distinction, but as for "variety" and the idea of using different weapons today? Rubbish.
If you join the US Army, you're getting an M4A1 Carbine with standard flip sights just like everyone else. If you join the USMC, you're either getting an M16A4, an M4A1, or an M249 SAW.
Standardized weaponry has existed for centuries, the UNSC is just doing things that make sense.
The reason why weapons change through the games are just for gameplay purposes, but they are explained as well.
The UNSC used the MA5B (Halo 1 AR) Until around 2550, then switched to the MA5C (Halo 3 AR) as it was a more accurate version. The UNSC used the BR55 all through the war, but it was not seen in Halo 1 because the Spartans were fighting in close quarters and wouldnt need a DMR.
In all there are around 7 varients of the AR (MA5, MA5A, MA5B, MA5C, MA37, MA2B, MA3C) And at least 12+ of the M6 Magnum.
