Realistically shouldn't there be many varieties of guns like in modern warfare?(not the game)

  • 11.22.2011 3:20 PM PDT

Why do all soldiers use the same ironsightless assault rifle with limited range and the same battle rifle and the same sniper?

  • 11.22.2011 3:22 PM PDT

That's the beauty of the Halo games, simplicity in using one gun for one job.

Outside the games it's a very different story.

They're not the same sniper.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

There are different variants. There are four types of Assult Rifles, three of which are in the game (Halo 1, Halo 3 and Halo Reach, then theirs the MA5K in Ghosts of Onyx)

Same goes with the sniper and shotgun and magnums and such. There is really no need for redundancy when the weapons in current service are all-around good and have been battle tested and proved worthy at what they were meant for.

In all the games though you never see an npc with a unique gun ever just wondering if the unacceptable only mass produces a few guns or something because of the scale of the war

In real war we use a plethora of different weapons though

Its gud

Halo CE had a troubled production cycle.
Most of the weapons had to be cut.
It turned out that the limited sandbox was a good thing.

I don't see you doing anything to help our country.
Except sitting at home, naked, eating twinkies, rubbing your hands together going "Heh. Target Destroyed. Mission Accomplished." Oh wait. that's not helping.

No we don't. Stop playing COD. Each branch has its primary weapon.

So is Halo accurate in that everyone uses the assault rifle thing

The Irish army uses 1 gun.

Between the two of them lolol

Why are you here?

I myself think the UNSC have a lot more guns that just aren't mentioned outside the games, or that aren't mentioned in the books. Just like a weapon for every situation like real life. These weapons in the games/books are just the most mentioned and used, famous, ect...

You mean each branch has an M16 and a Colt?

And the small variety weapons is for the simplicity and enjoyment of the overall gameplay.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

There are variations if you read the books. For example: Linda puts on a certain scope to her sniper. (forget the specifics) I remember her choosing the scope she liked along with some other equipment she favored.

  • 11.22.2011 6:47 PM PDT

haha

There's some variation in the books/games/etc. but it's probably because there is 1-2 main weapon providers for the UNSC.

  • 11.22.2011 6:54 PM PDT

As some people above have stated, there are actually a fair amount of variants of guns. For example, check out the pistol in halopedia, there are like 10 (idk the actual amount off the top of my head) different variants of the pistol. The reason why in each game there is only one variant of each type of weapon is purely for simplicity and gameplay. There is no reason to have, say, 20 different types of assault rifles. But in the halo universe, there are plenty of variants of weapons.

I'm pretty sure the UNSC has a massive arsenal of weapons but only a few of them are seen in-game or any content pertaining to canon.

So the games are inconsistent because all the marines use the same weapon variants available for gameplay

What? No, they use several different models, depending on which game.

About me: I am a vicious wolf of a man.

But really am sweet at heart. =)

First of all OP, its called punctuation, use it.

Second of all, the UNSC has weapon distinction, but as for "variety" and the idea of using different weapons today? Rubbish.

If you join the US Army, you're getting an M4A1 Carbine with standard flip sights just like everyone else. If you join the USMC, you're either getting an M16A4, an M4A1, or an M249 SAW.

Standardized weaponry has existed for centuries, the UNSC is just doing things that make sense.

The reason why weapons change through the games are just for gameplay purposes, but they are explained as well.

The UNSC used the MA5B (Halo 1 AR) Until around 2550, then switched to the MA5C (Halo 3 AR) as it was a more accurate version. The UNSC used the BR55 all through the war, but it was not seen in Halo 1 because the Spartans were fighting in close quarters and wouldnt need a DMR.

In all there are around 7 varients of the AR (MA5, MA5A, MA5B, MA5C, MA37, MA2B, MA3C) And at least 12+ of the M6 Magnum.

  • 11.22.2011 9:28 PM PDT

The bulk of "variety" in weapons today is mainly additional parts.

Such as grips, sights, etc.

  • 11.22.2011 9:35 PM PDT

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

Simplicity. One job, one gun.

  • 11.23.2011 7:40 AM PDT

3 years and only 1 ban, try harder next time noobs.

There is one united armed forces, they only need a few standard issue weepons.

Bungie left out weapons like snipers with 10-round mags, semiautomatic grenade lanuchers, and automatic shotguns for gameplay reasons.
