Subject: Titles are Too Ambiguous and Prominent

The tide is turning, brothers! Let us take our kingdom back!

People can spam their way to titles without being banned?

No, but seriously, people usually get a sense of how things work after a while. Sure, to begin with, people will hang on certain people's words every night and day, but after a good amount of ridicule and Bungie culture, they tend to figure things out for themselves.

The Community seems to be full of unwritten laws to me, and while I can't nail them down, I can tread around them without having everyone at my heels. Just how I like it.

@Geegs30

I like the colors. Bungie.net is already pretty dark, I think that the colors from title bars and Mod/Employee text are a nice change. Also, information from Mods and Employees needs to be easily distinguishable from that of normal forum goers, so their colored text should stay.
If anything, perhaps give them the option to turn off/on their colored text. That way, if they want to come across as just a regular forum goer and contribute to a discussion without derailing it with a potential quote spree, they can do that. When they are letting people know why a topic was locked or answering questions about the site, etc., they can enable their colored text and stand out easily.

Thoughts on this?

... there are still a few that feel the need to quote every mythic that posts, completely removing all discussion value and derailing a topic.

What? I hardly ever get quoted.

Maybe they're just afraid of my bar's particularly amazing shade of blue.

IMO, scrap titles and put the trust rating toward something functional, like privileges. People are more likely to behave if they fear losing useful, shiny things like that.

You tell 'em RC Master!

OT: I'm completely in favor for removing titles. Looking back at some of the 04 posts, it just seems without them people consider each others as equals allowing for a extremely friendly environment. Though, I'm also in agreement with what Daz said, give users something else, something SMALL to keep them in check. I wouldn't go so far as privileges, but more of a LITTLE icon next to the "message user" button, like nameplates, ones you can unlock the longer you've been on the site and etc...

The irony is, if you are banned your title would go down and you would lose that privilege, making it useless.

Only after we ban Bricypoo.

I'm indifferent on the whole situation, How often to people really spam for titles? With the lack of colors wouldn't the forums look dull?

These are some questions I always ask my self when thinking through it. Anyways, I think this subject is really just like politics. Everyone has their opinion and it will never change no matter what the other says.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I like titles, they show age and deication on the forums.

Do people take them too seriously? YES

Should they be removed? NO

I do think maybe titles should be changed to different names for Bungie's next series. heroric, Legendary, Mythic were Halo things.

I do think there should be some titles that are only for account age and maybe not get removed by moderator bans.

For example, I have been here for 2 years but it looks like I am new to Bungie.net.

Why reward people with the present of a title and colored title bar when they clearly can't follow the generally straight forward rules put in place by our gracious hosts?

If you can't follow the rules, tough sprinkles, brochacho.

I actually really like this idea. Have mods and employees be able to post as regular members when they want too and mods/employees when they need to. There's still the issue of the normal titles, but this is definitely a step in the right direction.

Daza's idea would go nicely with this, though I'm not sure what functionality you'd like to add. Suggestions?

Yeah, and while we're at it, why don't we make all avatars black and white...

I think it's ironic that you say people take titles too seriously and yet here you are arguing that you need a title to show your age. I've been here since '07 and yet there is no difference from when I was Mythic two weeks ago and normal now. A post is a post, titles mean nothing.

Make things "unlockable", so-to-speak. For example, once you earn x amount of trust, you can use a certain avatar.

Others:

- Ability to create a group
- Ability to create a thread
- Ability to create a thread with a poll
- Ability to post images within a thread
- Ability to report
etc...

It's difficult to think of examples when we have no idea what the next version of Bungie.net will look like or include, but you can probably see what I'm getting at.

No, and Achronos clearly doesn't think so either. Hence why you're unable to report whilst blacklisted - you've lost "trust".

I spend too much time here.. too much time indeed.

I tweet?

He didn't say the ability to overrule moderator decisions on just yourself, just their decisions. If you were banned you could get some other trusted soul to vouch for you and get you unbanned. Or you could use your power to say unlock a thread. Really, I like it.

I would replace posting pictures in threads with the ability to hyperlink. Despite how mature people think this community could be with the ability to post pictures, it'd make he site look less professional in my opinion.

Also, Ken, please stop lobbying for the rights of the consistently banned. We get it. You've been banned a lot and don't want repercussions.

Well you should have some "trust" to report if you aren't banned.

But if we can't report while un-banned, how can we report people who break the rules?

And if people report a thread that does not break the rules, it doesn't ruin the thread and it should be able to be unlocked by a mod (like that should be something mods SHOULD be able to do upon reading said thread).

If it's so much of a glaringly awful situation, PM an active mod. Otherwise, deal with the fact that you can't report. Someone else will.

Hyperlinking is a good one.

I think that if the trust required to post images was kept very high, it might work out pretty well. And I'm talking very high.

To be able to report, you would build up trust by normal participation.
