13.72 billion years in the making.

On December 1st, 2012, I met Neil deGrasse Tyson. I shook the man's hand, and even made him laugh. Not much else to do with my life now.

Lock.

This thread is getting derailed. And it's partially my fault. But my God, some of you are oddly mad about this.

Subject: Moderators and the web team don't look kindly on Coup...

Hi I'm RT and I like to argue!

I see people complain about how "Coup makes it look like you regurgitated Fruit Loops on your screen," and I can't understand that.
If you can't understand that, then making this thread was probably pointless.

Some people like uniformity because it makes the site easier to navigate. Others like it just because it's easier on the eyes. Me, I'm a fan of it for both reasons.

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

Some moderators use coup.

You should read the OP, then.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Some people just like a simpler look.

I think mods hate coup mainly for the barrage or stupid threads on the Flood forum when you should discuss coup in the pinned thread.

That picture you linked to is quite possibly the most unprofessional looking and cluster-blam!- of colors I've ever seen in a screenshot of coup. If anything, you're hurting your argument with it.

Also, would you mind citing somewhere where a mod or employee says coup is either "stupid" or "pointless"?

"Yeah, this is murder on the eyes. No offense to the web team, but normal Bungie.net, when compared to Coup, is rather dull.
Was that link meant to support your view?

It didn't.

If I came across a website that looked like that, I'd immediately close it and find another place to get whatever I was looking for. That's atrocious.

It's because the public forums aren't the places for threads about your myspaces on bungie.net script. The only people who care about it, indeed the only people who can care about it are people with the script installed. To everyone else it's utterly meaningless spam, and irritating, gaudy, self-righteous spam at that, so such threads are usually locked. Take it to a group.

Yax is a shining beacon in these dark times. You should all strive to be more like Yax.

I think that most members that have been here for a few years look down on it. Probably because it's really really ugly.

Yeah, by ignoring coups you don't like. Then every-time you clear your cache you have to ignore everyone all over again. And I don't know about a system in place that lets you restrict who see's your coup....?

This sums it up. I've still got a Coup, but I don't have it activated because it makes the forum look like a packet of fruit tingles.

Only after we ban Bricypoo.

Alright this is going to sound really mean but this is my personal view point on coup. I have never liked coup, mainly because most people change their avatars, backgrounds, colors, and such so much that it makes this website like a little kids club. Where they all put on thins they think are cool and that will draw attention.

I think it just ruins the site, As you probably have noticed I did change my title and such from when I first tried coup. If that is all people could do I wouldn't mind it near as much. But the fact that people can change their names, backgrounds, and avatars is just over kill.

When you can change your name it is hard to keep users straight. Anyways, I just think coup makes this website look like it was created for a bunch of little kids trying to get noticed/people to think they are cool.

But that is just my opinion.

Don't get me wrong, I commend Coup for what it is. It really is an ingenious little script Iggyhopper (et al) cooked up. But, I'm afraid that what could have been a cool feature that highlighted self expression has turned into "Who can stand out the most by having an obnoxious yet unique Coup.

Recon uses coup. Logic refuted.

/thread

As an anti-coup.

I downloaded it, installed it, used it to mute my title, bar and text (as best as I could), and then uninstalled it. I don't like how it makes my Bungie.Net experience look.

I am neither for nor against Coup. If a member wants to inject their 3rd party content into the Bungie.Net experience for others and themselves and are willing to accept the 3rd party content that others will inject into their Bungie.Net experience.... that is their prerogative and I don't mind or care.

But I'd rather have a forum experience that is like this than one that is like this.

One is far more conducive to conversation and discussion, the other is a bunch of people screaming "LOOK at ME!" instead of "talk to me".

@spawn031

"So much of what we do is ephemeral and quickly forgotten, even by ourselves, so it's gratifying to have something you have done linger in people's memories." John Williams

I like Coup for what it is, but honestly it's rather annoying when you have so many people constantly changing it and making posts and background that are so bad you can't even read them. I have everything disabled on mine so I can't even see all these crazy colors that people come up with.

It's unreadable. I enjoy using it for only a custom avatar and seeing what others come up with. I try to keep it simple. Anything more than that and it's just a big annoyance in my opinion.
