---NOTE--- I only call them elites since sangheili just sounds odd to me. And also sorry about the weird title, the stupid poll took my real title, which was supposed to be "New Elites" ---NOTE---
Hello peoples *happy face* Ever since my first tangle with them in halo ce as a chid, elites have been my favorite enemies. They're not cowardly like grunts, or huge like hunters, fly around annoyingly like drones, or hide behind shields like jackals, or incredibly brawny as brutes, they are the strength and mind power (excluding the prophets) that helps lead the covenant.
On that note, they should be given a greater number of ranks, but ones that are actually needed, not useless. The Elites have ranks that allow them to survive in space, take out enemies invisibly, or simply charge through the opposition like a living tank.
The ranks Im suggesting arn't being suggested because I'm some ten year old who wants cooler enemies, I legitimately want them to have more specialized ranks.
Before I start the ideas, I'd like to say something about the elites compared between Halo ce and Halo Reach.
In halo ce to halo 3 Elite Zealots could take rockets to the face and keep on kicking. They were THE soldier of the covenant, able to kill hundreds of foes with their powerful swords and marksmen skills. In Reach, we were given two new additions: The General and Field Marshal. Im not going to hide it, I hate the Fm. You fight him once, he's basically a zealot with horns, he kills all your friends, and has a buttload of zealot guards to protect him.
The General however, is fought more often then zealots, a bit more of a challenge then your average elite, and looks absolutely boss. They changed zealot's colour to red just so the general could claim yellow. Guess he's pretty important, eh?

I know Bungie no longer owns halo, Im just putting this to see if it's publicly liked. If you are going to troll, leave now.
Now, on to my ideas.
Elite Pilot
Basically, Im tired of hi-jacking a banshee on New Alexandria, and watching nothing fall out. In original games, a minor or major elite would fly the banshees, although Im a bit confused as it seems they are flying at high altitudes wearing normal combat armour. So, the solution? A specific pilot for flying covenant ships, from banshees to spirits.
The Pilot's armour is purple, and looks very similar to a minor's chest piece, it wears shortened zealot shoulder armour, and a ranger's helmet that instead of having a black/blue visor, is a bright gold. The helmet allows the Pilots to breathe at high altitudes, the armour moderately protects them from attacks. In combat, the Pilot has the same life, shields, and fighting skill as a minor. The only major difference in its combat style is that it prefers to fight like a "marksman", shooting at the head slowly. Their only weapon allowed is the plasma pistol, they do not carry grenades, and often fight in packs whether its in the sky or on the ground.
It can command lower species of aliens, but an elite minor can command these Pilots when they are not in ships.
Elite Operator
This elite will utilize the postions of "gunner" and "driver" for covenant land-based vehicular weapons. Altthough most of the time a minor or major will be driving a vehicle, the Operator uses the shade turret much mor effectively than a grunt or other elite ranks, and often guns on scarabs or two man vehicles.
The Operator looks exactly like an elite minor, excluding its grey armour and helmet that seem to be a cross between a major's and a spec op's. They are a bit more dangerous than an elite major in combat, and usually use a plasma rifle or dual plasma pistols.
Not much more to say 030
Elite Assassin
The elite assassin is easily one of the more deadly enemies, it doesnt show up on your motion tracker, can use a special type of active camo, and usually works alone with a powerful weapon. The armour looks like a spec op's, except the helmet which does not have the two elongated spikes, but seems more rounded.
--Special Camo--
The Camo can be activated at will, and matches the backround through whch the assassin moves past. It does it's best to match the envirement, from forest to city to space. The Camo lasts for about a minute, then must be charged for another three minutes. Without their camo, the armour color is a mixed up collection of greens and browns, which are more effective in jungles or forests.
--Special Weapon--
The Assassin works alone, and thats because it can handle itself alone. Despite having the shielding of a ranger, it has one powerful asset besides its camo. The needle sling. The needle sling is the covenant's equivalent of a sniper rifle. Unlike the needle rifle whch fires a rapid stream of needles, or the focues rifle which commands a long laser beam, the needle sling fires one powerful needle that is next to useless against vehicles, but three kill it's foe. The weapon fires MUCH faster than the sniper rifle, but only holds three rounds per magazine.
Hope you saved a shotgun or overshield, because things get dangerous with this quick killer.
Elite Ravager
The Ravager is literally a walking tank. It stands half a head taller than a normal elite, and wears glossy black armour. It moves faster than normal elites, and jumps like a skirmisher with moon-boots. It can flip cars out of its way, and always uses an energy sword. Seriously, using any other weapon it against it's religion and vows. It may not command vehicles, but may ride in ones like a drop pod or spirit, but not the side of a revenant or shade turrets.
I already told you about its height and color, but the Ravager also has a special armour look. It's helmet has the base (and horns) of a generals, the elongated horns of a field marshals, but has no visor at all. The helmet has absolutely nothing to look out of, so they use their enhanced senses and abilitys. Their shoulder guards are elite major helmets, (also black), and their shield strength is a bit weaker than a Fm's, but it takes four melees to kill it when its shields are down. (Two sword hits)
The Ravager is a walking tank with a sword. They are fought only three times (luckily for you! 030 ) but each time your'e testing luck with up-close encounters.
Good luck Spartan.
Anyways, if you are skimming and happen to see this, go back to the top, read the whole thing, then troll *ahem* comment.
