Reach's canon-breaking campaign should be non-canon, plain and simple. Not only did they disregard the Fall of Reach, they replaced it with a extremely s**tty, half-assed campaign with one-dimensional characters.
Bottom line, now they're trying to make it fit with Halo: Reach which makes me feel so much worse. Similar to what ajw said, they can try fixing all the plot holes...but, the story is still extremely bad now that they're trying to fit it in with lolReach.
Man, now that I think of it...what a great swan song. They practically gave 343 the middle finger and said "Haha f**k you. You're going to have to deal with are abysmal, half-assed, canon-breaking story! Have fun trying to fix that mess. With love, Bungie. :)"
And you honestly wonder why I say you appear to blindly hate Reach and everything about it?
If it was honestly that -blam!- awful canon wise, 343 would've just sad "It's not canon." or did something like "100% oni propaganda to make humanity feel better."
Besides, everybody else against Reach has moved on from such rants. Ajw, Grey, Anton, sure there are a few I forget. What do they say? "Fixes the holes but I don't like it."
You? "Reach is extremely -blam!-, half assed with no real characters" (while ignoring the fact in a single game Chief got about the same amount of character development.)
Why must you be so damn hostile to anybody who likes Reach?
Bungie let Master Chief's character development work out as they went with the series. And that's ok, it's not the most professional attempt, but it worked out fine.
Noble Team's character development however was extremely forced and I never found myself surprised or impressed with their behavior.
It was like... no, man, I shouldn't even be explaining this to you. Just play the Reach campaign and always focus on the chemistry in the team.
It's not there. Bungie simply stating that Noble Team is a bundle of deep bonds, teamwork and heroism does not make it so.
You gotta back up your talk with actions and proper meaningful dialogue, instead of expecting the player to work out the story in his mind.
It's painful to admit, but Reach as a whole, did not deliver the final justice spear into the hearts of many Halo fans.
It's ok though, Bungie, as long as you in your heads admit it, I won't judge you. There's tons of games to make in the future still.
