Subject: Grenades

do you think they are overpowered? i remember seeing a lot of comlaints about them being overpowered but they arent. I was playing halo 3 just these past 2 weeks and halo 3 grenades kill you even when you have full health. Reach lowered the power of grenades so that it wasnt a one hit kill kind of thing.

Tl;DR
halo reach grenades arent overpowered

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

No they don't and neither do Reach's.

Reach grenades are, in my opinion, a tad too much. Especially when you examine how slow the default movement speed is in Reach.

That and how ridiculously large the blast radius is, and that they stun you. And that if you don't have full health they CAN kill you.

Halo 3 grenades were somewhat over powered, but i don't think Reach has over powered grenades.

Halo 3 grenades had next to no blast radius and did not do as much damage (I think?) than Reach grenades.

I think you have the two grenades switched.

They do about the same amount of damage. Halo 3 nades just had smaller blast radii. The difference in the health systems also needs to be accounted for.

If I remember correctly the big change they made was that grenade damage didn't just stop after a certain point, but rather it gradually dropped off over a larger radius.

Still, at least they're not CE nades. With Reach's movement speed those things would be laughably overpowered.

Halo 3's nades were slightly weaker.
The blast radius on Reach's downienades is stupid.

They also don't bounce like Halo3's. I really miss that.

See, I figured they did the same amount of damage because in Halo 3 if your player health is low enough one grenade can still kill you, just like in Reach. Full health and full shields? Neither grenade can drop you.

A little off-topic but still on the topic of grenades, have you played the CEA campaign with the Boom, Grunt Birthday Party, and Grunt Funeral skulls on?

It's so much fun, haha.

Grenades in Halo 3 are, for the most part, weaker than their Reach counterparts. They do the same amount of damage, meaning, you could not have died from one grenade unless your player health was very low. Even with full shields it could have killed you at that point.

One thing that may make it seem like Halo 3 grenades do more damage is the fact they are much more bouncy than Reach grenades. As a result, they can be angled much more effectively to hit their target.

Then again, the default movement speed in Halo 3 is much faster than Reach, leaving you with a greater ability to get out of the blast radius (which is not that big to begin with).

I haven't found Birthday Party yet, but I've experimented with Funeral and Boom. o_0

I find it hilarious that the AI don't recognise the threat that Grunt corpses pose, at certain points on PoA I died even when I ran all the way back down a hallway. The resulting chain reaction from sticking a Grunt was crazy!

Oh, then I tried it with Frags against the Flood on 343 GS. *throws grenade, room clear*

I think you are too, haha. You may have felt that way just because of how different the two grenades are.

Reach nades have a larger blast radius than Halo 3's. Reach nades also bleedthrough, while 3's didn't.

With Halo 3's nades the damage would completely just drop off an do nothing after a certain distance, Reach's still do damage at larger radius's but not as much.

You also have to account for the differences in health system and the fact that 3 you were MC, a Spartan II while in Reach you're Noble 6 a spartan III. Canon really shouldn't effect gameplay but they made it so.

Then you also have the slower movement speeds and jump heights to account for and the shorter fuse time of Reach.

This is absolutely it, also the stun/loss of hearing for a second sometimes messes with me.

We should get 343 to put H3 nades in the TU.

Same damage as Reach's, assuming you were standing right on top of the grenade. Health in Halo 3 is invisible but it did weaken the player health after breaking through full shields.

It's really all we need.

We got bleed through.
We got zero bloom.
We can increase movement speed/jump height.
