Subject: Lock this thread...

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

Hows writing "Please lock" spam?

When you make the title Please Lock and the body of the thread please lock it has no discussion value and takes up forum space as spam.
If one is done with their topic, they should be granted that right to request a lock. What are they spamming if they do? I understand if they're creating multiple threads or posts, but other than that, there's no spamming involved.

O_O......o_O......<_<.....>_>......-______-

Ken, the point of doing that is to STOP discussion in that thread and for it to be locked, therefore STOPPING it from taking of valuable real estate on the front page. Do you seriously not get this?

yolo? -blam!- that! YOLTOSS!! You Only Live Twice or Some -blam!-

I have requested one of my threads locked before and it did happen. I also reported myself to bring attention to the fact the thread should be closed as well.

Because the topic has ran its course and met it's purpose.
This.

If the OP is satisfied with the discussion, and wants it to end, then why not?

But it already served it's purpose e.g. the question has been answered. How is that spam and a waste of forum space? It's not like they're just making a thread saying "Please lock".

By editing the main body of the OP to just say please lock it destroys any further discussion that could be had on the thread. Just because the OP doesn't think the discussion is there doesn't give him the right to say the thread needs to be locked.

If the OP is satisfied with the discussion, and wants it to end, then why not?

Because once the OP hit submit, the thread became property of the community. Even if the OP's question has been answered it is not up to him to say that the thread needs to be locked, the thread should only be locked if it is clear that no more discussion is taking place or will take place.

You understand we're talking in regards of a question thread. What discussion is meant to be had once the question has been answered?

That's the thing. They're not saying it NEEDS to be locked. They're saying that they are asking a moderator to lock it.

I am all in favor of changing a threads title to "Please Lock", but the changing the WHOLE OP so that new responders can't even TRY to be on-topic, that's not cool.

But, like I said, they should be allowed to request a lock all they want.

Discussion about the question, such as a rule question.

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

I don't think you should be able to edit titles or posts at all.

Well that's an example of a thread that wouldn't get locked... This isn't rocket science. If its a thread asking "How do I become a legendary member?" and the question gets answered, I believe the OP was the right to request a lock.

It depends on what the change of the posts body is. If you completely change the topic, then yes, a change of the title would make sense.

Got a question, comment, or concern? PM me.

The only people who I have ever seen ask a mod to lock their topics are ones who don't comprehend what an opinion is or have no idea what they are talking about.

When they get flamed or don't agree with what others are saying, they lock it because they have nothing to back up their own opinion. Thus, placing the blame on others in a desperate last ditch attempt to make themselves look better.

I think it is pathetic. If someone doesn't agree with you and they like discussing it, you have no right to take away their discussional abilities.

So you disagree that Mods should have the power to lock threads, because if that is what you are trying to get to, I entirely disagree.

If a thread is full of nothing but constant spam or anything else that violates the Forum Rules, it should not stay until it dies, even if there is discussion value.

No, I'm saying the OP should have no power to lock it/ask the mods to lock it just because no one agrees with them.

Ah. That all varries.

If I am constantly getting flammed or if the thread is full of everybody flamming each other or full of constant spam, I will ask for a lock. If the thread is not mine and the same is happenning, I will PM a Mod asking for a lock.

  • 11.25.2011 4:35 PM PDT

Yes, I AM just that awesome.

If someone asks a question and gets it answered, then the thread should be locked instead of getting numerous replies to a question already answered, so therefore, it would be keeping a pointless thread on the front page. Instead of allowing it to be swallowed deep in the bowels of the Septagon.

Also: Am I the only one who thought this thread was asking for a lock because it had fulfilled its purpose?

That too, as I stated on the first page of this thread.

Haha, no. I thought that it was asking for a lock too!
