The internet is a dangerous place, and Bungie.net is no exception. There are bad people out there, people who can exploit your system with viruses, and other "stuff." People can also exploit you too! With this easy guide, you can surf Bungie.net with ease and safety!
Tips for protecting your system:
People on Bungie.net can hide nasty stuff into their posts. Read the following tips to learn on how to protect your system.
* Enable Pop-up and Script blockers.
* Always keep your virus definitions up to date and always look out for new system patches <Credit: BLACKJACK green>
* Always check the URL of the link.
* If you are unsure weather it is safe, DON'T CLICK. Wait for someone else to insure its credibility. Don't forget to scroll down the thread, read all reviews.
* If it is a tinyurl, DON'T CLICK! Enable TinyURL Previews
* If it is too late, warn everyone!
* Always have a firewall and a spyware application. You can construct your security castle with the Security Starter Kit, includes everything you need to protect your computer!
* Add any offensive websites to your block list on your protection program. Therefore, in case you do click on an offensive link, it would be blocked. Such sites would include Lemon Party or other sites you may know about.
<Credit to GameJunkieJim> Firefox users have a lot of options for increased security. Not only does it's default pop-uop blocker grab almost everything, there are a few plugins availiable.
NoScript Disables all scripts from running except those you want to run. Best. Tool. Ever.
AdBlock Plus Filters out banner ads and a lot of ads from those pop-up sites that happen to miss the blocker. One of my favorite tools.
AdBlock Filterset G Automatically updates AdBlock. Awesome.
Blue Frog Anti Spam Adds your email addresses to a bunch of no spam lists, and fills out respective complaint forms for those sites. It cuts down on a lot spam.
Respective to Bungie.net specifically.
Activate the TinyURL preview linked above. A lot of people use TinyURL's here, mostly to save sig space, but some people hide nasty stuff in those links.
When using the BB Tag: Rather than linking it like this: myname@provider.com, try to link with a description: My Email this will keep any scouring bots from automatically adding your email to their spam lists.

Protect Yourself
Be careful on what you say, it may cost you! Read these tips on keeping yourself safe on Bungie.net
* Do NOT give out your home address!
* Do NOT give out any personal information, such as phone numbers.
* Do NOT respond to anyone asking for such personal information unless you absolutely know who that person is...if you are concerned, message a moderator immedietly.
* Do NOT give out any full names of you or your parents, there are methods that may threaten the security of your location. Although, your first name is ok.
The pretty much sums it up. I hope you have a safe and enjoyable Bungie.net experience!
