Subject: The community's fascination with bungie store items.

There comes a time in every mans life... and that time is not now.

I don't understand it. Ever since the 'Black Friday' sale has been advertised, i've seen people saying that they'll buy every item, or that they wish they had more money to buy things. The only new item that i thought was ok is the 'See you starside' mug, but i wouldn't buy it because the shipping costs are outrageous.

If this was any other brand/ company, there wouldn't be this big of a fuss about it. I have never known anyone to feel the need to purchase every single item from a company as soon as its released. Perhaps you all have a lot more money to spend than i do. But that is beside the point. Some of the newer things in the bungie store are just frivolous or impractical, yet people are losing their minds over them. A money clip is far less practical than an actual wallet, but give it the bungie logo and it becomes a must-have item to certain fans.

Basically, why do you want all of these things from the Bungie store? Is it because you actually want/need them, or is it because you feel compelled to own every bit of Bungie merchandise there is?

I just want the Track Jacket because it looks nice.
I'm still debating upon whether it's worth the purchase or not, though.

@spaboolly

I think a lot of people do it to support Bungie. Normally I wouldn't spend $15 on a hat, but I would rather give $15 to Bungie than give $5 to walmart. Besides, it's just cool to have. It's a way to express your interests. And it's fun to indulge and get yourself something nice once in awhile.

On a semi-related note, however, I don't see why people have made so many threads about it. Or why they feel the need to make a thread to post what they bought or ask if they should buy something. That could have gone in the original thread that Ken made.

Not to mention they have good looking merch. Who doesn't like to look like a pimp?

Bungie is not a small company. I really don't think your $10 is going to make too much of a difference to them. I get that they're a good company and you like them, but i wouldn't buy something from them just because its a bungie item.

The appeal of the merchandise is purely subjective. I personally don't like the look of most of it, but each to their own.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Must... Buy... Swag....

I need a new Backpack and that track jacket and I want to help a Charity and need to hold some of my money...

Did you even read my post?

What compels you to buy that stuff? Is it only because it has 'Bungie' written on it?

Imagine this: You have two backpacks to buy, each of similar size and function. One is a branded 'Bungie' backpack, the other is not, yet it is superior* in quality. Which one would you get?

*In no way am i saying bungie items are inferior, this is purely a hypothetical scenario.

I'm not entirely sure where I said that Bungie is a small company. But I must have skipped over that.

Anyway, not only will the money you spend make a difference to them (even if it is a $1 donation to Japan Quake Relief that doesn't even go to them), but when a person wears their merch or uses their accessories (like the mugs), they are also promoting and supporting Bungie.

It is the same reason that clothing stores put the name of their company or their logo on the clothes themselves. I think it's called Marketing. But don't hold me to that, as I could be wrong.

Either way, Bungie isn't like other companies. They are very grateful for everything we do. Even if it is purchasing a $10 piece of clothing.

Bungie backpack, I like it. The regular Ogio Metro backpack looks kind of bland without the Bungie logo. Plus it is normally $80.00, now it is $70.00 for a few days.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

An even better question: where the -blam!- does everyone find the money to purchase these items?!

I'd be grateful if you were giving me money too.

I think people forget that in the end Bungie's still just a business.

Yo Halo53, I'm real happy for you and I'ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best bungie.net profiles of all time. OF ALL TIME!

Is this a thread complaining that Bungie fans are buying Bungie products?

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. If you're on the forums actively posting, then you're probably a fan of bungie and you want to buy things to show your support for one of your favorite developers.

No, this is a thread inquiring as to why people lose their minds over new bungie merchandise.

It is kind of like how people buy the new Iphone every year or the new cod every year. it is exciting and we haven't had new Bungie gear in a long time.

Agreed. There's no reason to make a thread about the fact that you're going to buy a "See You Starside" ("Destiny") Beanie or a Marathon Hoodie.

And, as far as I'm concerned, making a thread that's asking everyone's opinion what you should buy is just as good (or, usually, bad) as a flood topic asking how you should ask out/approach a girl you like.

The responses in either thread really shouldn't affect how you actually go about your decision, making the thread meaningless.

TL;DR: Just read the first word of my post.

When I grow up I want to be bitter and spiteful.

It's not that I want stuff or wish to support Bungie.

Shrine's don't maintain themselves you know. It's hard work.

By sharp and flame; a friend of a friend.

Well, here are my reason for spending... erm, more than I'd like to admit on Bungie/Halo merch:

1. They actually have and have had some very practical items.

2. I've noticed that all, if not nearly all of their merch is made in the USA.

3. I just love them as a company, and I want to show support.

4. Alot of their merch has been for charity.

5. I really love the style of their clothes.

6. I have to admit, I am a bit obsessed.

7. Whatever I can give will bring us/them one step closer to completion of step 7!
